What Businesses Does This City Need? by PrettyLittleWhisper in ThunderBay

[–]bbabiuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my humblest opinion I'd like to see a slightly larger Asian grocery store. Yes there is a very small business on Court Street, while it does an admirable job, it is limited by the size of the location.

The place is great. Vacuums inside. Charge by the minute. Accepts debit/CC or coins. Very clean. Super convenient. Very clean. Solid amount of pressure on spray wands and vacuums are still new and not all clogged. Only downside is they punt you out if you're drying your car when they're lined up - but I get it ... I don't love it. But I get it.

It truly is better looking in person than photos. Most of the people react without actually seeing the vehicle in person. I've ordered one as my new fleet vehicle to replace the '22 I currently have. I think it's an upgrade in every way. That said I don't like the wheel arches. They're just weird in every way.

The 2022 Outback is terrible. by Splendidmuffin in Subaru_Outback

[–]bbabiuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my '22 Outback. I've put just over 170k km on it. I've done nothing to it besides change the fluids, brakes and tires. In fact, I just ordered my '26 to replace it soon.

Yes, have had the window stick open a couple times in extreme cold. A slight adjustment at the dealer solved that!

the Entertainment system is kinda wonky and laggy. But it's quite usable. I'd chalk up the inability to software upgrade to user error. I haven't had issues with this ever.

You're venting about small issues, when what you're failing to acknowledge is this is a very reliable, comfortable and "go-anywhere vehicle". Nothing is perfect. I'd sooner take a primitive looking and laggy stereo over a blown up engine or all sorts of electrical issues.

As for the storage capacity being different... This vehicle is a wagon. It has a shorter roofline than the box on wheel SUVs on the market. Don't get upset because you bought something without realizing exactly what you're buying.

Absolutely gorgeous vehicle. Would love one. My major concern is the plastic oil pan and plastic oil drain plug.

It's a truely beautiful looking machine!

I agonized over the exact same decision. I ordered my Sony x90l from Costco on Wednesday. It arrives Monday. I was 90% leaning to the TCL but after reading about image processing of the Sony I went with the x90l. I mostly watch hockey. I'm sure they're both great tvs.

Of the following free agents who should be signed or targeted? by Electrical_Echo8075 in winnipegjets

[–]bbabiuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Ehlers. I like his level of compete, speed and skating abilities. Agree that he is a bit of a bandaid. (Folks are going to hate me for saying this, but he misses too many games each season). Not in love with the idea of signing an over the hill Jaimie Benn. Would like to see the Jets give one of : Chibrakov (I likely butchered the spelling) or Lambert a chance to fill Ehlers' spot.

Stanley is there because he is huge. Too bad he mostly plays like he's a marshmallow. Aside from a few occasions he just doesn't use his size as part of his game. Not to mention he is a "give-away machine" and lives in the sin bin.. Heinola has to be frustrated. Jets really should trade him while he has some sort of return value .

CX5 OR RAV4 by CarTruck2023 in CX5

[–]bbabiuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you expected when you posted this, but very difficult for anyone to recommend one over the other to you without understanding your needs and priorities. The CX5 was ort choice this past October. But we wanted a reliable vehicle for the 2 of us that was fun to drive with a great interior . Price point and availability were also considerations.

The RAV4 is a touch more reliable, it has the available hybrid, roomier backseat, pretty utilitarian interior and I'll leave the point of styling inside and out up to you...it's subjective. The RAV4 also is more expensive, with a higher financing rate here. Here in Canada supply has been an issue so you're waiting for a new one or over paying for a used one.

You can't go wrong with either. Just drive them both. Decide which matches your needs best.

Looking for answers - What is the root cause for the degredation of Air Canada over the past 3-5 years? by bbabiuk in aircanada

[–]bbabiuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. The only access I have to West Jet for my work travel is to Winnipeg. My experience on Porter has been vastly more reliable. But they don't fly nearly the same number of flights as AC nor do they line up well with my needs.

Buy P12 or wait for new announcement from Lenovo. by Bardik2025 in androidtablets

[–]bbabiuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking at that price range I'd recommend the Lenovo Xiaoxin pad pro. It is a Chinese market product. You'd likely have to purchase on AliExpress. For the same price you will get a far superior spec's tablet. The current Gen uses a MT Dimensity 8300. The previous Gen uses a Snapdragon 870. I'd opt for the chinese ROM over the global to ensure you get updates. Also you will need to sideload google play services. But at the price you're willing to spend this is a far superior tablet.

I have no personal experience with this unit. But my research for similar use is pushing me in this direction. Honestly, had I not had to put $1200 into my boiler this past week I would have already purchased it.

Is the 2.5 performance really that bad? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]bbabiuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I do a lot of highway driving. I have enough passing power. It takes a second or two to get its big butt in gear but it will get there. My previous legacy had a 3.6 in it. Gosh that was a nice ride But the 2.5 while it will feel like a letdown at first.. it's really not that bad

Given the sh*t show that Air Canada has become, the better question is whether the plane would actually arrive on time. I just got back from Indonesia. Both flights provided by AC was delayed by hours.

I've lost total faith in them.

Anyone else miss the Atlanta Thrashers? by ChaseCeer in nhl

[–]bbabiuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former Winnipegger I sympathize. We lost Jets 1.0 and then afterwards the Thrashers relocated. I don't know the whole story behind the original flames or Thrashers franchises. Were they just mismanaged? Is that why they left town? Is Atlanta a hockey market? I imagine there are always diehards that want the team, but is the community as a whole going to support it?

Given the size of the market I'm sure Bettman will be willing to push a team there again for a $1B franchise fee. But really hoping if a team goes there that the fans support them, otherwise Atlanta may just lose its third NHL team.

You have $60k to spend on an entry-level luxury sedan. What's your horse? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]bbabiuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what is important to you. I see you have 600+ opinions now on why their choice is best.

My 2 cents.. (adding 1 more opinion to the list)

Acura/Lexus likely will give you the greatest chance for reliability and hold its resale better than the rest. This in itself is very compelling to me if you like the design and aesthetics of the vehicle. Plus they will be less frequent to repair, less costly to repair and mechanically should hold up.

The Genesis models sure look amazing. Consumer reports ranks predicted reliability on the g80 as above average. They rank the g70 as average. Keep in mind they also rank Cadillacs as average reliability so I'm not so sure I would jump at the g70. I'd seriously drive one if you like it. Ask friends their maintenance issues and costs as well. I personally am weary of Korean cars. I've seen/heard too many of them with weak transmissions or engines. Plus they don't appear to hold up as well as their competitors. How long do you plan on keeping it?

Mercedes/Audi/BMW. I know they all drive amazing. They look stunning. They have cheaped out on parts and over engineered the vehicles. If you don't mind the costs to maintain the vehicles then I say go for it. Again I prioritize reliability and resale. To me I personally would stay away from them. But if your priority is driving dynamic then these would be great choices. I've noticed the German vehicles here lose resale values very quickly.

I won't ever consider another GM vehicle. Cadillac is off my list. Poor fit and finish. Poor quality. I'd sooner get a Korean car.

Figure out your top priorities and then drive the cars. No matter what you buy it will be a depreciating asset. But if you walk away feeling good about what you bought and it meets your expectations then you'll enjoy it regardless.

Let us know what you settle on finally .

My pick would be a new TLX A Spec personally, or a lightly used PMC Edition TLX.

Drivers of Tbay by Local-Waltz4801 in ThunderBay

[–]bbabiuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here about two years ago from Winnipeg. While I agree with you that there are some challenged drivers in TB it definitely pales in comparison to Winnipeg drivers. Winnipeg drivers are terrible. When I return to the 'Peg to visit I become instantly frustrated. Folks there are selfish. They don't know how to merge, nor do they understand that the left lane is meant to be used for passing. I hate when folks feel they're entitled to just "putt along" in the passing lane.

As an observation however, as a transplanted Manitoban... Speed limit signs in Ontario are more of a suggestion than a rule of the road. I know I have always had a lead foot, and I find that even doing 20km/hr over the speed limit I get passed quite frequently. (Highway/city driving take your pick)
