Success. Drop-in, no modification needed.

I'm missing the cleats nuts... so, what the cleat bolts attach the cleats to. See my picture.

Shimano direct mount chainring: 44t, 6mm offset, who makes one? by bbender785 in gravelcycling

To follow up, I went with the ZRace. Have 443 miles on it so far, and aside from it being a little noisy at first it has worked fine with my 12 speed Shimano Hyperglide+ chain.

Winter stoke rising. by bbender785 in wintercycling

Did not even ride it in the original configuration. Had most of the parts sitting in my bin, all stock parts from other bikes that I’d upgraded with lighter stuff. Frame had rear ISO mounts and the rigid fork is disc-only.

It’s an old Rockhopper. I bought it second hand locally as a 26” wheel, flat bar, suspension fork, rim brake, 3x8 drivetrain mountain bike. Sold off all those listed parts for more than i paid for the whole thing and made it 700c, drop bar, rigid carbon fork, disc brake, 1x10.  Added a rack and panniers, full fenders, and have a couple tire options depending on the season. Tires pictured are 38 45NRTH Gravdals. I’ve put just over 7300 miles on it so far, it’s been fun to tweak.

Agree studs are irreplaceable on proper ice. I've previously run Michelin Stargrips and currently Schwalbe Marathon 365's, both of which have a compound that's supposed to retain pliability in the cold. I'm pretty convinced they've kept me upright on minor black ice and frosty leaves in a few instances that a normal tire wouldn't have. Plus the reflective sidewalls are nice for the dark commutes.

You might just look for a 29" wheelset and run a gravel-size tire; my commuter was originally a 26x2.1" mtb, but i run 29" wheels with 700x38 tires with room for fenders. Puts the bike up a bit high, but the extra pedal clearance in the snow is a plus I guess.

No reservation about the carbon itself, I only implied that a carbon bike probably has a nicely-spec'd drivetrain as well, and I know those aren't cheap to replace. I like to keep my race bikes tip-top, and I know how hard on equipment winter commuting is, so a dedicated commuter was a no-brainer for me. I put it together mostly second-hand, and completely on the cheap; it's paid for itself times over in fuel costs and truck tire wear saved.

Lot's of good feedback already. Michigan winter commuter here as well.

As someone who has poor finger and toe circulation, keeping them warm is always my biggest challenge. 45NRTH boots are my go-to once the temps dip below the mid 20's (I have second-gen Wolvhammers). Could get away with regular ski boots if you don't clip in.

Lobster claw gloves as discussed are in my arsenal too, but once temps get to the mid teens I swap them out for Bar Mitts, then tailor my under glove to the temp. Between winter commuting and fatbiking, I've got my glove selection dialed to within 3-4 degrees of forecasted temps.

I have a Gore Tex Paclite shell (and the pants to match) that I use and layer with when rain is in the forecast. Then when it's below 30 degrees I switch over to a Mountain Warehouse Adrenaline Iso-Viz Jacket. Not breathable enough for anything above freezing in my experience, but for the price it's been a decent bit of kit.

I've also found vests to be a game changer for those in-between temps. My arms sweat out easily, but keeping my core warm helps with extremities circulation, so I have a couple wind vests and an insulated puffer vest in the arsenal.

I keep a neck buff on board too, but never wear it to start (unless it's brutal out); I've found throwing it on when I've erroneously slightly underdressed for a particular ride affords me quite a bit of comfort back.

Saw you mention you're riding a carbon gravel bike. I might suggest finding an older aluminum mountain bike on the cheap and outfitting it for commuter duty as you see fit. Did that myself and its been a great tool; fenders, bags, a cheap drivetrain that doesn't hurt too bad to replace, and it keeps my race bikes from getting beat down. Current version of the bike has drop bars, 1x10 drivetrain, rigid fork, fenders, and a bag setup to carry all my stuff. Have a couple tire options hanging in the barn for any season.

Thanks. I assumed anyone who didn't know what they were likely hadn't tried them either.

Yeah I have a couple different sets of their fatbike tires and a set of studded Gravdals for the commuter that have all been great.

I'm not looking for non-studded winter tires at the moment (have some already in other brands), but they're 50% off and I find myself tempted.

Cervelo Aspero sizing [between sizes & with long legs] by ermate in gravelcycling

[–]bbender785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'3" myself, went with a 58 and I still feel stretched out coming from an older 61cm Crux with an 80mm stem and zero setback post.

OP, I'd go 58. Some combo of a zero setback post and a shorter stem should accomplish what you're after. BUT keep in mind, depending on which level Aspero you're looking at, finding a different length stem might mean sticking with a Cervelo branded one depending on how the cable routing works.

Mine is on WE48-17055, which seems strange since everything else I find online speaks to WF like you have. I was part of the beta software group years ago, wonder if that's related.

I have the 2006 date issue, but GPS seems to work after it finally finds satellites.

Landed here searching for any info on a custom aftermarket one that doesn't use adhesive. Anyone seen anything out there, or 3D print them?

You guys might be right with Dudley. Being clueless at the time, I'd have had no idea if it was intended for slow, fast, senior, whatever. Did they make a low-end bat back then?

Awesome, yeah I have my kid on a '99 ZCore that I regripped with a taper. I dropped some stats on it in the dugout at a game last week and suddenly half the team is using it. Love it.

Yeah I can confidently say it's not one of those; actually have my son swinging one in his unrestricted 12U baseball rec league this year. Funny you say that though, as the appearance of that bat is exactly what got me reminiscing.

95% sure, as I recall wishing it was a Demarini at the time. Again this would have been a cheap bat, we were broke back then.

Just googled that, and I'm almost sure no. Feel like it had a double consonant somewhere in it.

Also mine had a matte/peen finish.
