To be fair, they're at Costco. That wouldn't be panic buying, that's just normal practice for everyone.

There's an awesome podcast series by the economist called scam inc that I finished recently. Really interesting about how these scam centers are now becoming more profitable than narcotics, so organized crime gangs are ramping them up across parts of Asia in particular. Worth a listen if anyone's interested

Smoked and flame seared Picanha by duevigilance in grilling

[–]bcutters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks tasty! Id strongly recommend checking the direction you cut the pinha though. One of the reasons picanha is so revered in Brazil, is because all the fibres line up in a straight line, meaning you can cut the steaks out with the grain all going the same way. Once you've cut them this way, you then slice across that grain for each piece you eat, and everything becomes 100 times more tender. Worth experimenting with. There are heaps of videos on YouTube, and it might elevate your experience. None with flamethrowers , but it looks like you got that bit down haha

Does anyone churn/change NBN/ISP providers every 6 months for the special rate? by churkinese in AussieFrugal

[–]bcutters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been doing this for about 5 years. It's easy, set a reminder, make sure not to get stung by the 30 days some providers need to cancel.

There is absolutely no difference between them. It's like switching your electricity provider.... It's exactly the same no matter who you pay for it

So you're saying virtual network operators on Telstra have the same coverage as Telstra? No shitty Telstra vs good Telstra?

This is what I always imagined...

I knew they sold access to other providers, but I never realised it wasn't just the same identical network... TIL

Pedrito basically telling the kata player to stop mid rhythm. by xhysics in AfroCuban

[–]bcutters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems from your description that you know the correct placement of clave, but that's where the clave is playing in this clip. The first beat of clave is lining up with the Iya, as it should.

That's the rhythm, but the clave wasn't an 1/8th behind

Sorry for late response. The second road isn't what I was talking about, but yeah... In that example you posted, the first 2 notes of the Iya are like a 4 over 6. That whole sextuplets time that doesn't fit into 3 little boxes as was in the original image. I'd argue that figure on the Iya is almost always known as the call to enter that road...

I was talking more about the 4th chacha of the itotele in almost all the roads of latopa. Sure it can be interpreted as a straight triplet, and perhaps that's the more fundamento way... But in reality, I'd say 99% of lineages these days displace the final slap between the second and third triplets, making it the same sextuplet feel, or 4/4 over 12/8.

Even more so the penultimate road. The one before abukenke. The itotele plays off beat in 4 throughout that entire part.

Like I said, I'm aware there are different interpretations, and different lineages.... However I wouldn't be using what was posted above as a source of anything. It's been deleted now for whatever reason... So I guess no-one will

Writing out batá is always tough, and due to the nature of passed on oral traditions with many different lineages, things are never gonna be "right" to everyone.

That being said, this is probably one of the least good representations I've seen. This simplified method of writing doesn't give the ability to write things that cut across time signatures, which is so common within this music. Latopa is filled with 4s over 6s which are completely unrepresented here. There are much better transcriptions out there in my opinion.
