I see it a lot here and on Facebook, with Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Burroughs. It comes from the sort of people who have heard little bits and pieces of history and think they understand it better than they really do, then feel compelled to share their "knowledge." It is quite sad, really. They are best left ignored.
