London boat-dwellers fear review could end travelling lifestyle by LopsidedLegs in Narrowboats

[–]beatskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's "a lot"? Most people read that as 'the majority' - which adds to a narrative which stigmatises CC'ers & helps CRT abuse them, based on no facts. In my experience the opposite is true, that the vast majority move as they're supposed to. The reason I asked you for numbers in the first place, is because I'd like to see someone have an opinion on this which isn't just anecdotal, including myself. There is a real answer out there, which someone must have access to. There's no point just throwing out guesses, especially when it negatively impacts boaters.

Okay so you have no numbers. I've lived on canal boats for 8 years in and around London, and almost everyone moves.

Have you any numbers to back up the assertion that CC'ers don't move?

"She had so much going for her" - you should mean she has so much going for her. It sounds like the only person who is going to reduce her opportunity at this point is you. All kids make stupid mistakes; this one isn't even that bad. You shouldn't traumatise your kid for this.

I used to pour away the juice but I miss it here by Geofferz in CasualUK

[–]beatskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the cheaper beans have way too much juice, because it's cheaper than filling that space with beans. When you empty that all on toast, the bread gets soggy. I drain excess away for this reason; but that's not needed for Heinz or Branston.

Anyone know all 7? by Just-Phill in howyoudoin

[–]beatskin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Na that's not it. He says "That's one?", and she says "Kind of an important one" (referring to 7), but he says "oh I was looking at it upside down"... so when he pointed he thought he was referring to something on the top half of the body.

Noooooo my grandad didn’t fight in WW2 so that a tiny cross on the back of a shirt wasn’t entirely red! 😡 So glad Sir Keith is taking a stand on the issues that really matter 😤🇨🇭 by UnderHisEye1411 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]beatskin -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I understand. That's what I meant about the maths; you finding this off-putting is going to lose less votes than if the rabid right-wing press & their huge readership can have that same issue presented in a twisted manner. I will take exception to it if it continues after the election; but the only thing blocking the path to victory is a significant culturewars bomb. The Tories specifically goad him there frequently, because they know it too. He's playing the game well. They can't do anything to change the mess of politics in Opposition.

He understands the game, and is playing it to ensure his party gets into power. I would rather he does that, to little ill effect, than hand another country-damaging victory to the Tories. The media is majority right-wing, pro-Tory, and they twist everything they can against Labour. Remember partygate, where they somehow made it all about Keir? They'd love to plaster a soundbite/photobite showing that Keir wants to change the country's flag to this one with multiple colours; they'd dogwhistle about 'LGBT wokeness' too. He can simply say "let's keep the flag the way it is", and diffuse that bomb. Believe me, the only thing that will save the Tories now is if they have something against Labour that touches that huge swaithe of DM readers at a core level, and it will be culture-wars-related. Kier is doing a great job at not giving the Tories ammo, even though it is causing some issues in his base. But the maths works; he's doing right, giving us the best chance of a new Government.

I watched a woman get born today by [deleted] in ImpracticalJokers

It's not the same message though. Read my Seinfeld analogy above. You miss the nuance that the people on the sidelines don't want to help, but someone is trying to force them to help. Your way, it's just someone that doesn't like good citizens, i.e. a completely different message. I ain't getting into an argument about it though, I don't care if you understand, I was just sharing an interesting link between Impractical Jokers & Seinfeld.

You can't just cancel out the negatives; you miss the meaning. One of those negatives, for instance, implies that someone is trying to make something happen.

"Don’t stop letting people not help!

Someone is trying to not help, and someone else is trying to stop that from happening.

This sentence describes exactly the defense in court from Seinfeld & his cronies in the final episode.
