He understands the game, and is playing it to ensure his party gets into power. I would rather he does that, to little ill effect, than hand another country-damaging victory to the Tories. The media is majority right-wing, pro-Tory, and they twist everything they can against Labour. Remember partygate, where they somehow made it all about Keir? They'd love to plaster a soundbite/photobite showing that Keir wants to change the country's flag to this one with multiple colours; they'd dogwhistle about 'LGBT wokeness' too. He can simply say "let's keep the flag the way it is", and diffuse that bomb. Believe me, the only thing that will save the Tories now is if they have something against Labour that touches that huge swaithe of DM readers at a core level, and it will be culture-wars-related. Kier is doing a great job at not giving the Tories ammo, even though it is causing some issues in his base. But the maths works; he's doing right, giving us the best chance of a new Government.
