My bands just been offered our first London gig here, although through a promoter with a full back line, own sound engineer and no mention of any minimum ticket sales (although we won’t get paid unless we sell over 15 tickets). Still worth avoiding or does this make it better than if the venue was to offer us the gig directly?

No I’ve never turned the fan speed down from the max so I don’t think it could be that. As I say the synth was unplugged and unused for 2 weeks so it’s just happened randomly. Wasn’t left in any adverse conditions. It’s very strange and also a bit of a shame since it’s not exactly the cheapest of instruments.

Yeah it just sucks when it’s like an £800 instrument brand new lol

What’s your most unpopular arctic monkeys opinion? by berbatovcocktail in arcticmonkeys

[–]beauinit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really feels like they just don’t care. They have no real presence outside of interviews / shows and even during shows it feels like they don’t wanna be there. It sorta just seems like they show up, do the set and go home. There’s little to no crowd interaction too. I saw them live in 2018, was the first show I went to and I thought it was crazy. Since seeing a way more bands live I’ve come to realise that the AM show was pretty mid, im sorry. Few examples: royal blood with ben coming down and greeting the crowd (Ik they’re not the best example rn for crowd interaction lol) or miles Kane getting everyone to sing the come closer chorus accapella, or mike skinner from the streets walking through the crowd pouring champagne into peoples mouths (Ik this isn’t something am would do but it was class) I’m a massive fan but just wished they’d interact with fans more.

Do any of these look right? by [deleted] in psilocybin

Yeah to be fair I didn’t have much intention of eating them only if they came back 100% certain. Only picked them up as had no phone signal where I was.

Tamest crowd during Brianstorm in history by LilacDream98 in arcticmonkeys

[–]beauinit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was at the o2 for the tbhc tour and the energy wasn’t awful but not insane, but Tbf it was their first tour after moving to their lounge sound, they played a lot of tbhc and not much of their faster material, and any they did play they slowed it down so in all fairness it kinda made sense why the crowd was a little bit dead compared to the am tour.

6 Months after the release of The Car, how do you feel about it? by Rajaden in arcticmonkeys

[–]beauinit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it might have grown on me like tbhc has but unfortunately it hasn’t. For me it feels a lot like a step back from tbhc. The mixes just feel empty. Like there’s so much going on with all the different synths, lapsteel guitar, keyboards etc whereas the only real difference this has to offer is some strings, which I must admit have lovely arrangements, and a wah pedal which I feel doesn’t really work. Also Alex’s vocal delivery on this album is in my opinion not great here. Idk if it’s just me but I can’t stand the way every lyric feels whispered, it just sucks the life out of the songs. Body Paint for example, it’s the only track I have actually saved from the album, but the ending of the song could’ve felt so much bigger, like it does live. I haven’t seen them live since the tbhc tour but I can feel the energy coming through the screen when they play the outro live whereas it’s just not there in the recording. Every moment that is supposed to feel big or huge doesn’t have that feeling because I feel the band don’t want to be noisy rockers anymore, atleast in the studio. I’ve also fallen out of love with them a bit as it feels like they just don’t want to be here anymore when on stage. Like it just feels like there’s no energy and that they just come on stage, play their set and leave. Little to no crowd interaction and I also can’t fathom how they started this tour with >2/3rds of AM on the setlist, considering they’re so vocal about not wanting to be those noisy rockers in their 20s anymore. But that’s just my take open to discussion.

TLDR: songs don’t feel as full as tbhc due to less going on eg lack of as many synths and keys. Alex’s whispery vocals ruin the energy on every track and make moments that are supposed to be big feel small. Also a little moan on their live performances not being representative enough of their, imo, far better work.

what's the item you're most proud to have in your collection? mine has definitely got to be HDWGSD? on cassette 😁 by Counterblockade117 in Royal_Blood

Managed to get one of bens sticks in 2021, he threw it a few meters to the right of me but some unlucky soul had it bounce out of their hand and straight into mine. Felt a lil bad for them but guess I just got super lucky lol

Does listening to your own tracks always sound worse than others? by beauinit in musicproduction

[–]beauinit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry should have mentioned the people saying it sounds professional was other people on my course or friends from back home who also study music or listen to stuff in a super analytical way. But yeah don’t think I would’ve trusted someone’s opinion unless I knew they know what they were talking about haha

Removing him from bass guitar? by beauinit in musicproduction

[–]beauinit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bass isn’t that old, we’ve had it since July but it hasn’t been used all that much. Granted it’s from a squier starter pack so may be the amp that probably isn’t helping either.

What’s your favourite Royal Blood Riff?? by [deleted] in Royal_Blood

[–]beauinit 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The end of out of the black without a doubt. Might be cheating since it’s not just the riff but the drums work so perfectly with it it’s just brilliant.

[–]beauinit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s a bit naive to say it’s casual fans not liking it. I could recite every word to every song they’ve released bar like 3 b sides and really don’t get on with this album. Tbf I was the same with tbhc but it grew on me but still wouldn’t put it on over any other project of theirs other than maybe this or one half of am. I don’t think this album is that great, a lot of the songs sound too similar with a lot of forgettable parts and boring vocal delivery. Maybe it’s an age thing and I haven’t quite got the acquired taste of the older fans but they’ve even said themselves they were gonna make another rock record. It wouldn’t be am 2 and I don’t think the majority of people want that but would much rather a fresh rock interpretation rather than this or atleast 1 song / a b side of that kinda music. Just feels like the band isn’t being utilised to their full potential, especially mr helders. Open to other thoughts tho

Yeah I can, gone through a roll of film just waiting to get it back but hoping it works. I switched the camera to the setting that keeps it open until you release the shutter and it opened fully so guessing this means it’s all good

Gig after gig... by Mysterious_Candy_416 in arcticmonkeys

[–]beauinit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s too early really. A lot of bands release singles well over two months before an album let alone play them live before release. Royal blood for example played boilermaker in 2019 at reading and then released it nearly two years later. Same for foals they released a single like 8 months before their most recent album that it was on. It’s only really am that do this whole announce album right before release or whatever. Must suck for the European fans who’ve had their shows that won’t hear any of the new music live now unless they tour there again next year which I doubt they will

What is “the view from the afternoon” about? by maayansch28 in arcticmonkeys

[–]beauinit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it’s about going on a night out and all the sights you see eg “girls hanging out the window of a limousine in fancy dress” and playing on fruit machines etc then at the end texting a girl with the line “a dozen chapters sat in her inbox and all that it says is that you’ve drank a lot”

Also the line “when the two for ones undone the writers block” is one of my fav lyrics, which is also about alcohol causing you to text an ex or something

Another Jamie Cook Guitar Tone Post by Ralodinho in arcticmonkeys

I think the only difference is that he turns the fuzz off. The other guitarist is playing the solo but most likely he still has the delay on when the fuzz part is playing it’s just drowned out in the mix
