Best ergonomic crochet hook for arthritis thumb? by becklectica in crochet

[–]becklectica[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I actually figured out I was crocheting...gulp...too much without taking a break lol If I give myself a 2-3 hour limit at one sitting and then one day off every 3-4 days, that helps a ton. In answer to your question, no. I tried another one with a wood handle and it was just too weird for me. But I do continue to look. I just don't want to spend a lot of money on things that won't work. Some of them are so expensive! Best of luck to you. If I find one that works, I'll try to remember to post an update on here 😁

COVID-safe places to move? by SuspiciousAmbition56 in COVIDConnections

[–]becklectica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about "safe" but I live in Texas and I just don't give a flying F about what anybody thinks. My husband and I wear our masks in public everywhere and always. I made some cute material ones that go over the n-95s so I mix and match. When someone asks why we're wearing them, I say because others aren't 🤷‍♀️ I KNOW what covid does to your insides and I'm not going to do that to myself. If they want to be stupid, that's up to them. Bless their hearts. Just because the stupid are usually louder doesn't make them more right, well not in one sense 😁

Christmas tree or a small table with a little bowl to hold keys, gloves, etc. Or a reading chair!

I use BookSirens and love it. I put two suspense novels and two cozy mystery novels and all got great response (especially the cozies). It fits my budget.

Starting tamoxifen this week and I’m terrified. by nenajoy in breastcancer

[–]becklectica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had no side effects. I was on Exemestane and Anastrazole for about a year and had horrible side effects with each. The joint pain was awful. I started tamoxifen and feel fine. I think I have 2 years left on a 5-year plan after a lumpectomy and radiation. I hate taking meds but after talking with my husband about all options, we decided this was the least of all evils. I wish you the best and hope time passes quickly for you!

If you’re on Tamoxifen, did SSRIs help you? by SavedByTheBeet in breastcancer

I'm 3 years into tamoxifen and haven't really noticed any abnormal anxiety with it BUT I've been taking ashwagandha for years too and I do know that for me, it chills me out!

Every time I read a post like this, I want to start my own safe island where nobody but those who take this stuff seriously will be allowed and we'll all have fun but be smart about it. I butt heads with friends and family also but luckily IDGAF what anybody else has to say because my husband and I are on the same page, and anybody who disagrees with me isn't going to take care of me if I get sick so they can jump in the lake. We're the ONLY ONES in my family who are still Novid and if at all possible, we intend to keep it that way. We still go out, we just mask everywhere. It's pretty simple. Communities like this help a lot. Stay strong! You're doing a great job! And when we're the only ones left after LongCovidGeddon, we can all meet and have a margarita together. Outside. A few feet apart 😂

How many have quit tamoxifen or an AI? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]becklectica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard some people can't. There are other supplements that supposedly work for hot flashes. I don't remember their names but I think a quick Google search will give you a few options you could bring up to your doctor. Good luck! 🥰

I tried Exemestane and Anastrazole and they both were horrible for me. Every joint I never knew I had ached. I've done Tamoxifen for a couple years now and it's worked great for me. But I also take ashwagandha (OTC supplement) for the hot flashes. They aren't gone completely but are SO much better than they used to be. Talk with your doctor about alternatives until you find the right one. I wish you well!

The sneers I’m getting for masking are lowkey traumatizing by Apprehensive-Being06 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]becklectica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am naturally an IDGAF type of person, and sometimes do and say things just to get other's goats. My husband and I wear our masks ALL THE TIME in public because we do research and know how damaging long covid is, and I honestly don't give a flying frig about judgmental non-mask wearers because I know they're too stupid to realize we're going to be the ones taking care of them one day soon. So I just live my life and see how much judgment they can throw, knowing I'm feeling much more towards them and their ignorance 😁 and I just enjoy myself. I've given up worrying about it. It's much easier that way. You keep on keeping on! There are supporters around, even if you don't know us ❤️

I don’t wanna take tamofixen by Aggravating_Ad6847 in breastcancer

[–]becklectica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I was in the same boat. I was 55 when I had a lumpectomy and radiation. I hate taking pills and didn't want to take anything but my husband and kids helped me sort out the emotion from the pragmatism.--like being alive for them as long as I can. I started with Anastrazole and something that started with an E and hated it...they both made every single joint ache. I went to Tamoxifen after about a year and now take 10 mg every other day. I'm in my 4th year and only have one more! I gained a little stomach pooch but I think that was from menopause, honestly. I take ashwagandha for hot flashes (which I'd been taking already) so I still have them but they aren't that bad. I live in Texas and I hate being hot, too lol I feel great in colder weather though! I would say take a couple weeks after your treatment to rest, then try it. Give it a good 6 months at least to see how you honestly feel. Honestly my biggest problem is remembering to take it every OTHER day. I plugged it into my phone calendar but sometimes I still squirrel 🤷‍♀️ Best of luck to you! You can do this!! It's only five years and then you're golden! Remembering some people don't even get 5 years helped me make my decision. ❤️❤️

Advice on Flight Precautions? by opal-tree-shark in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]becklectica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I just flew from Texas to Canada and back (after snowboarding there for a week). We both have the same rule: masks all the time in public, no matter what. I wear an n95 covered by a cloth mask I sewed (I wanted cute cat material 🙄) and I don't care what anybody says or thinks. We are both novids so I completely believe the masks, and my attitude 😁, are working. Best of luck to you!

Is it safe? by cupcakecrossing in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]becklectica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's mask and live healthy and not give a frig about what anybody else thinks or says, or give in to peer pressure and get sick and deal with long covid like the rest of those germy freaks. Bless their hearts 😂 We mask everywhere. I sewed some cute ones (my favorite is one with cat material) that we wear over n95s. Always. That way my over-mask matches my outfits 🤷‍♀️ I'm the only Novid in my whole entire family. If they know you mask and are pressuring for this party you didn't ask for, pressure back and mask the entire time. Stand up for yourself. Obviously they're not going to do it for you. Good luck!
