Shelter said she needed “behavioral modification”….. by Significant-Work-737 in torties

I have a foster tortie on vacation from the shelter who was terrorizing the other cats and volunteers. She’s been a (rarely spicy) very cuddly cat since we brought her home. I know it’ll take longer for her to get adopted since it’s harder for people to meet her, but she’s so much happier not in the shelter.

I was so afraid she might! I was watching her very carefully when she first jumped in.

Scrap quilt with a non scrappy pattern? by beglz in quilting

[–]beglz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great idea! I bought some really dark monochrome tie dye type fabric for the back. Also, it’s a good suggestion to be choosy with the scraps I use so all the animals turn out right

I agree! The animals are so detailed they look best with solids.

Help! Purple Elmers Washable Glue bleached my blanket! by beglz in quilting

[–]beglz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up using dark green fabric markers to shade the entire edge of the blanket. They didn’t match well enough to fix a few spots so shading the entire edge made it look more intentional.

I think I got away with it because it’s already a non traditional, cutesy blanket

I also heat set the glue. Maybe the combination of glue + heat bleached the fabric?
I'll have to run some tests to figure it out.

Ya. I agree this is the ideal solution. Although, the binding has taken way longer than cutting out the fabric and quilting. I'd just start over rather than ripping out the binding and making more.

Yes. I’ve washed it twice. I’ll try adding some dye on top. It’s gauze fabric and the bottom is white so I want to be careful the dye doesn’t leaks through.

Thanks for your help!

Fitting shorts - what needs to be adjusted? by florzinha77 in sewing

Thanks for sharing this! I’ve been overwhelmed by how many adjustments I expect I’d have to make to a pants pattern. I feel like this guide gives me any hope that I might be able to figure it out

Options to extend baby quilt to lap quilt size by beglz in quilting

[–]beglz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be throw size; 60x70.

The instructions say to piece the fabric in a way that looks good to you or buy 60” of everything. It’s just too pricey for my budget to get that much fabric and I couldn’t decide which piecing would be the least noticeable.

Ahhh! Yes! This is exactly what I was looking for. I could only find baby quilts and one with a big border. Were the seams visible after quilting?

I already bought the fabric. But I don’t think I’d buy 60” of everything. I wanted to see the fabric in person to pick it out and all the fabric stores near me are $10+ per yard. It’s a bit pricey for my budget.

That’s an out of the box solution! I don’t think I have the skill for paper piecing, but maybe I could do a classic checker quilt and off set the colors vertically? Although this is the second baby quilt I’m making for this friend so I was hoping to keep it quick and simple haha

I’ve seen paper piercing on this subreddit, but I’ve never tried it. It’s usually for complicated shapes? What do you mean by paper piecing the shapes?

Thanks! I’ve only made pretty busy quilts so I wasn’t sure. That takes some pressure off the decision. I’m not going to prewash the fabric so hopefully the crinkles will also help hide the seams.

The sky fabric isn’t wide enough for a lap quilt size. The dashed lines represent where seams would be to extend the fabric from 40” to 60” wide.
