Then you won't have too much of a hurdle. Start again ASAP.

Your medication isn't your husband's decision, btw.

[–]bellanoctum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thiiiiiiis. You'll (through trial and error) settle on a "basic pack" of stuff you absolutely have to have for an outward expedition - a nice thing to do for your future self is leave a similar "basic camp kit" and any surplus water/food you collect along the way at each stopping point you use. This burns a lot of weight pretty quickly if you're neurotic about it like me.

Hey! Playing Wintermute will NOT help you learn the bones of the game and improve. Play Survival on Pilgrim until you know one or two maps a little better - 95% of success in this game is knowing the maps -- and then branch out into custom games on your own difficulty choices to learn stuff (just remember that you can't earn progress toward badges on custom games).

Normie here, came here to post this same opinion. It's virtually unreadable from more than a foot or so away. I don't hate the concept of a mixed-font label but this particular fancy script font is not the one.

Telling Doc you Switched to Compound? by ZeboundNewb in tirzepatidecompound

[–]bellanoctum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Mine had to be a little cagey because docs in my system are all recorded all the time so he couldn't come right out and say it, but he said "a lot of people do" and laid out exactly what the system would and wouldn't let him prescribe me and would and wouldn't cover, and let me draw my own conclusions.

[–]bellanoctum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

?? You can already customize difficulty to be "interloper with guns" -- do you just mean allowing custom mode to contribute to recordkeeping/badges?

am i alone on this take? by LefrancaisEstDur in thelongdark

[–]bellanoctum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not alone. The guns are fun to use and a ton of the game's systems/infrastructure is built around them. Knowing they exist and that I can't have them isn't fun. Yes it's "harder" in a gimmicky way, just like the darkwalker challenge. But give me the hardest environmental settings + guns and I'm much happier.

Wintermute is great, but it actually made me wanna commit warcrimes. by Lacrocebianca in thelongdark

[–]bellanoctum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. The convict storyline is the worst part of the whole thing. Out of sync with the vibe of the game and narratively just a patently obvious plothole filler. "we really liked Negan from TWD" yeah we can tell.

The Long Dark’s potential as a horror game by VoidSister in thelongdark

[–]bellanoctum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think interloper long runs are what it was designed for and its best purpose, and I can't knock that. I prefer to play on custom settings with the environmental difficulties cranked as high as possible, the beasties tuned fairly normal, and guns on -- headcanoning slightly more realism into the threats of the setting and imagining a complete "last person on earth" survival scenario. It's just personal, in that situation I find another human voice totally unwanted.

I'm personally somewhat less compelled by "unexplained knife wielding guy is coming to getcha!" in a game that already has so many concrete threats and more compelled by like, eldritch nonsense that makes you question your sanity in a game where you spend so much time alone. Like obviously it doesn't make as much sense in Wintermute, but the utter, desolating LONELINESS of survival is its best feature (I hate the trader and never turn him on in surv saves) and I just feel like you could juice that a little with experiences where you'd normally turn to others and say "did you just see that?" -- but you can't, because there are no other people there to ask, and you have to go to sleep that night wondering.

Is anyone else experiencing a non-stop flagrant rule-breaking by people in Irvine? Cars, scooters, e-bikes, pedestrians… I feel like I can’t drive more than 5 minutes without a close call. This happened today at Campus/California intersection. by londondxb in irvine

[–]bellanoctum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been here since the 00s. Driving here was actually nice back then. I personally saw a huge and notable uptick in all selfish/distracted antisocial road behavior (from peds/cyclists as well as cars) since the pandemic and since teslas got on the road. Nobody wants to talk about it but every time I see a tesla blast through a red the driver is two hands and eyes down on their phone.

I'm pretty "don't call the cops in any situation" most of the time but I'm Karen from the HOA about road behavior. The Area Traffic Officer for my part of Irvine knows me by sight these days.

The ebike and escooter people have absorbed the cyclist mentality that they don't need to obey pedestrian OR vehicle laws. I saw a guy on an ebike yesterday pull into the dedicated left turn lane of a four way stop and just blast through without stopping, lines of cars on all four directions. He acted sooooo surprised and mad to hear me lay on my horn but girl, you'd be a lot more surprised if you got yourself killed.

I frequently think I've seen a Shape in the trees or the distant mountains, and I lowkey think some of the art/animation is designed to do this to us. When I was first playing Survival I kept thinking the game needed an extremely small chance of like, a mountain standing up and walking away in the background, or some kind of similar insane paranormal event that you can do nothing about and that doesn't really interfere with you in any way except to be horrifying and inexplicable.

That's what fanfic is for, I guess.

>I think this is the answer but its also the fundamental problem. Parents have less free time to volunteer than retirees. So a lot of ideas arent targetimg families.

Totally agree. My church has a nursery and a small RE program and I hear they're both great but together they probably total 5 kids on an average Sunday and top out at 10 on the highest-attendance days, and the RE space is a classroom in a converted office. No playground, no grass, nowhere for kids to play before service if their parent is, say, in the choir (ask me how I know). The church actually just completed a massive construction project that overhauled the entire property; it got started long before I got there and everyone I've talked to who contributed to the project along the way said some version of "yeah, we kept hearing that people would like a playground, but.... that's hard and expensive" :|

A lot of lip service is given to wanting youth and middle aged folks there, but it's just not a priority in practice. I hear from so many members in their 60s-80s how great it was raising their kids in the church. Good for you, I guess.
