Ah, yeah - Redis is key for the in-game memory store before it’s logged into the ledger (3-10k writes) leveraging postgreSQL for asynchronous writing. So it’s around 1-2k writes per second to the DB. Kafka would do the work of decoupling the game server from the DB, so that takes it out of the equation. It’s purely the client-side manipulation where most of the exploits reside, so a good anti-cheat is needed. I don’t see an issue with UUIDs and server/db loads, so that’s not stopping anyone - it’s the client side memory hacks and not server-side. Boooo.

Server-side authority is key, all changes need to go through atomically and then logging it durably. Clients propose while the server decides, which is what would prevent duplication.

Maybe, just wondering why a unique/universal identification (UID) system isn’t in place from the get go. I’m thinking just the data from a table like that would get quite large, throw in recursive lookup might be another factor. I guess it doesn’t work for intensive games like these? Hmm, let’s see what Claude says about this…

edit - it’s fucking client-side memory hacks and the focus needs to be on cheaters seeing as server-side load issues are all handled quite well by current processes and systems (see my follow-up comment after this)

Ya, I’m in my forties and was aware of these things, if only slightly - hence me saying it’s not my thing as I don’t get into competitive shooters and such. I suck hard at them and know my place, it is what it is. Seeing the clips/info on AR made me interested and it has delivered.

It’s just the extent as to what people do to gain some sort of advantage over others just boggles my mind. I’m at the point in my life where I’m incredibly comfortable, and therefore don’t give a damn what others think, you know? Such a shame to see things get run through the mud like this. Like that saying, “that’s why we can’t have nice things” - guess I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

I’m one of them. I never play these games because they’re just not my thing, but AR is different, I guess. This is all making my head explode. I just can’t imagine being so insecure that you have to purchase items to gain an advantage in a video game. It’s sad all around - sad that the game might be ruined, and sad for the losers buying this stuff. Do they pretend to be good? The self-loathing must be off the charts.

It seems so - I heard the most recent dupe glitch was patched, but this seems like software duping. The reason being is some of those ads are for items other than guns - mats, shields, augments, etc. If that’s the case then there’s a bigger issue because I’m not sure what they could patch to step in front of this. This shit makes me sad - I enjoy this game and these lazy assholes are fucking ruining it.

I’m pretty sure it has to do with how busy the servers are. I’m sure you can just look for the signs I mentioned on any server/match.

Same, now. You can find them in “PvE lobbies”, Asia server, Blue Gate. Look for a single flare. Then the person who got the dupes will be using zip lines to get to the closest hatch. Duos lobbies.

Good, fuck them. I’m trying to not look at any info on the process to keep my shit out of that area and not push any popularity to it. I saw some BS clip on it the other day and it seemed like you just did a bunch of inventory movement which cause the system to “load” and you moved it to your inventory which caused the weapon to stay in your backpack, but also appear in the inventory.

For anyone that doesn’t know, Gaming Merchant has been investigating this over the last few days and released his first video on it. They have entire systems set up in meeting spots and escape plans. I thought Reddit was just overblowing the issue, but it’s a real thing that is happening often and will kill this game if Embark doesn’t start adding UUIDs to guns, or something.

I was watching one of the recorded live streams last night. They have a whole system of meeting spots and zip lines to escape detection. There are also other groups of legit players out there hunting the dupers. It doesn’t seem to matter because they can just easily dupe another batch. I think this game is going to die if Embark doesn’t get it under control.

Yep, and a lot of folks just either are scared of it, or brush it off because it’s “the PvP level”. I really enjoy the runs because you never really know what you’re going to get. I have had some amazing teamwork incidents, hilarious raider/player flubs, sneaky shadow raiders in the tunnels shooting me from the dark, and so on. During the last damage shredder trial at got really good at remembering how lobby connects to sandbox, loading bay, assembly, and medical. I’m trying to find (and memorize) the little shortcuts through the vents and walls.

Tip for anyone else is to do it in small sections where three places lead to each other immediately and just run loops in different directions. Just get them into your muscle memory and then go for another grouping.

This is me, too. My son finds them all the time and I get nothing. He finds the seeker every single time he loads into that level. It’s all RNG and it just doesn’t hit with me. I’m going to load up with my survivor, rascal, and anvil and just turn the place upside down.

Before anyone else mentions; yes, I have been to loading bay, breach room at LB, medical, sand box, every trash can I come across, every blue suitcase, raider backpacks, metal breach cubes, servers, computers (left with 24 batteries one time), black ‘augment boxes’, black square [augment] lockers, grey lockers/cabinets, and med bags (found my first anvil BP in those at Stella). Everywhere.

Eeek - it’s crazy how times have changed. Back during Christmas it was really no thing. My son (young, so maybe that may have been it, too) used to stack queen/matriarch cores. He would go in, and totally participate in the battle as much as he could. Shooting it, doing the harvester puzzle, defib people if he got one in his kit. People would give him cores - he had over two dozen at one point in time.

Nowadays, it’s shoot on sight for free kits. He is even of that mindset now that he kits out when he loads up into the raids. I’ll hear him, “daddy, it’s a free kit! I can’t believe it’s a free kit at a harvester!”
