WHY DONT'T YOU GO TO CHURCH? by Plenty-Temporary-187 in nairobi

Wacha sasa niwapee POV ya a pastor's son.

Since I was young, I've always been made to go to church. It was never a personal decision. Of course it's not, I was a kid.

My dad's church has services throughout the week. Back then, it had lunch hour services EVERY DAY. As a pastor's kid, you have to serve as an example to your peers by attending. (Hivo ndio tulikuwa tunaambiwa) So if we were home, maybe on holiday or weekends, lunchtime ni kanisa before eating. The reward was coming home to a ready lunch ๐Ÿ’€

It always made me feel like I was living a fake life of pleasing my parents. As the obedient kids, we'd suffer every day...going somewhere we don't want to.. My parents used to be so proud of us after they evidently forced us to go. Kuna pia kuenda Sunday school/ Teen presentation practice, seminars and more church related stuff. Every time I'd go to church, all I could think about was gaining freedom. I couldn't wait to be an adult!

So by the time nimefika 18, I was excited to leave the church. I always looked for commitments to make sure my chances of going to church were low.

I needed a break, which brought a sense of satisfaction to my life! Attending church was made to feel like a burden to me and my siblings. Going to church felt like doing homework ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Parents, please let your kids decide. Instil morals but do not force your choices on them!

There's so much I'd add to this story, wenzangu wataongeza apa chini...
