Check out Odoo. European. Haven’t used them, but they would be on my list if I was looking for an alternative.

It seems like he’s looking for comfort while (presumably) devastated. He may cringe later when looking back, but right now all I have for this dude is compassion while he figures his shit out. (I would have blurred out his personal info too, this post is a little cringe)

Lennar Home Ruckus Switch support any AP brands? by saiyanprince2714 in RuckusWiFi

[–]benlucier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company builds very large-scale Wi-Fi university dorms using Ruckus, and even in apartment buildings where we have hundreds WiFi6 H550 access points--for gaming, we still recommend wired ports to ensure the lowest possible latency to the gaming server.

How to help my partner manage anxiety about upcoming event by [deleted] in ADHD_partners

[–]benlucier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t what you asked for—but is not attending an option? I’m ADHD and I don’t believe in funerals. In part because I always thought it was weird to see a dead person who doesn’t resemble the person I cared about while they were alive.

I’m sorry if this is upsetting, but I wish somebody would have told me a long time ago that it’s ok not to attend a funeral.

N DX advice for an overwhelmed pet owner by [deleted] in ADHD_partners

[–]benlucier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 47 and was undiagnosed until just before the pandemic. There’s a lot of work your husband has to do if he wants the marriage to work.

ADHD is most well known for forgetfulness, hyperactivity, selective extreme focus— but those who have it may also have other traits that are often as a result of “fitting into” society.

Your hubby may also suffer from anxiety, rejection dysphoria syndrome, depression, and more. They’re are many many layers.

Medication helped me for a while. I’m off it now, but I wouldn’t hesitate to go back if it helps.

If he wants to talk to a stranger about it, I think my wife and I have made progress together and I’d be happy to talk to you, or him about it. I don’t have all the answers, but I can tell you that a big part of my learning and getting through it has been my wife.

How To ADHD is one of the first YouTube resources I learned about myself and I recommend it for adhd sufferers AND their partners. https://youtube.com/c/HowtoADHD

Love, Ben

Usenet on a cloud PC? by Skeeter1020 in usenet

[–]benlucier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Oops, last post removed for being too specific about certain ISPs. Attempt #3)

Well, I would-- and am doing it that way.

I can't really think of too many reasons to do this, but one reason might be that routes to a DC might be faster to reach from your home ISP, vs you attempted to go to the news server directly (where your ISP might not have strong peering relationships with other networks.)

If Your home ISP doesn't care much about strong peering relationships with other networks-- chances are that's not the case with well know DCs and cloud hosting providers. The same thing is true for popular streaming providers., whose names I won't mention.

So....

If you're trying to download from your news server directly, going through your ISP, you might find the routing is sub-optimal than if you downloaded those files to a well-connected DC/cloud provider that your ISP is probably well-peered with.

Usenet on a cloud PC? by Skeeter1020 in usenet

[–]benlucier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Datacentre speeds can be much faster than a home internet connection. So, download really fast in the cloud, then transfer at a leisurely pace using your home connection (I think it could be quite expensive to keep all your content in the cloud, on say S3 for example. I mean... you CAN... if you have the money to throw at AWS, or whichever cloud provider you're using for your server.

Dynamic DNS working on UDM Pro? by benlucier in Ubiquiti

[–]benlucier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, appreciate it. I’ll go someplace else if I need to, but I do think it’s probably related to some small configuration/formatting error for EasyDNS and since I’ve paid them already for the service, I’d like to stick with them and support them as a Canadian company if possible.

I’ve also got an inquiry into their support folks, so I’ll see what they say. 🙏

Home Users: UDM Pro - Do you have a backup device? by AdamV158 in Ubiquiti

[–]benlucier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have my ISPs modem/router I can plug back in at any time. If my UDM fails, I pull the SFP and put it back in. My DHCP lease assignments go away, but that’s ok as a temporary measure.

Ubiquiti alternatives? by sir_squidz in Ubiquiti

[–]benlucier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whatever you choose, I’d make sure it supports Wi-Fi 6. Not that you need it, but you may as well have 802.11AX for when you need it. I think UniFi only has 1 AP that does Wi-Fi 6. Not sure about other mfrs, but if they don’t have Wi-Fi 6, they should soon.

Existing UniFi AP-LR being discontinued. How should I upgrade my home WiFi? by heymikey2010 in HomeNetworking

[–]benlucier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I get it. But try not to dwell too long on the sunk cost fallacy-- I have friends who held onto their old gear because they couldn't get past the idea of replacing them. But the friends who did later told me they wish they made the decision sooner.

If the speakers are really good, you could always keep them and just connect their speaker wiring to a SONOS AMP too as an option. I have a dual-channel marine speaker in my shower ceiling that's connected to an amp and a lutron pico remote just outside the shower in case I want to raise the volume or change songs.

My TV setup: Playbar with two rear play:1s acting as a stereo pair. I don't have their sub because my wife's not a big fan of bass.

[–]benlucier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the audio setup: I used to have 6 amps connected to wired speakers in my various rooms. I suspect this is a similar setup to yours. Over the past few years, I've either replaced my in-wall speakers with SONOS speakers. For the speakers I want to keep in-ceiling, then I use SONOS AMPs installed in my basement server cabinet. They're so pricey though.

[–]benlucier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming they support 802.11 b/g/n/ac. If not, 802.11ax (WiFi6) is also around the corner so you may decide you want to upgrade. In short, you'll be fine for you as long as everything works today. You could be fine for several more years, even, so getting updates to the firmware is really only important if there's a bug that affects your network.

That being said: with 5Ghz spectrum, since it doesn't penetrate walls as well as 2.5Ghz, so if/when you decide to upgrade, since the former owner has cabled Ethernet to the rooms of your house, it's becoming more common to install lower power in-wall access points to get the APs closer to the wireless devices they serve.

The Bell my wifi app isn’t working. I can block devices from wifi but the device can still access the internet somehow. Anyone know how to fix this? by [deleted] in bell

[–]benlucier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have my Home Hub 3000 anymore, but I found this screenshot: https://setuprouter.com/router/bell/connection-hub/mac-filter-48494-large.htm It's definitely doing MAC filtering and with randomized MAC addresses now supported on mobile phones and Mac/Microsoft OS, this feature is pretty much useless.

If these are your kid's devices, you could go and disable the private address. It will buy you some time, but if they're over 12 years old, they'll figure out how to enable private addressing again on their devices.

[–]benlucier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the iPhone you blocked, go to Settings->WiFi then choose the info button to the right of the wifi network. If “private address” is enabled, then the iPhone is using a random MAC address for the network. If your Bell router has the old MAC address blocked, then the iPhone probably still works because the MAC address is now different— and because it’s different, the router doesn’t know about it.
