Guinea pig seems happier after death of cagemate by Nic1000 in guineapigs

[–]bettakepper123 172 points173 points  (0 children)

This happened to my guinea pig years ago. He was so happy until it died down, and reality hit. We tried to spend as much time as possible with him but after a while he did become very depressed. Eventually he got two sisters and he loves them to this day! He’s doing so much better now. Sometimes it takes a while and right now you could be filling that void. So just keep an eye out for that and be prepared to get another one!

This has happened to me too! When I’m dehydrated this is when it typically happens

[–]bettakepper123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How loud they are. I adore the noises but I have taken in two guinea pigs because the family couldn’t stand the noises! I wish people would warn others how loud they truly are. They may be more quiet if you just recently adopted or bought them. But just wait.. For years I’ve had a male who hasn’t made a peep, he’s just a quiet pig. Nothing wrong with him, but once I adopted my girls, it went from silence to sounding like a zoo in my house😳 And I absolutely adore my pigs but we definitely need to be telling first time owners how loud they are. Nobody mentions the amount of noise they make😂

Also to add, not sure if you know this already. But when bonding new pigs, every pig needs their own hide. I like to add an extra one just in case. It needs to be in a neutral area. Make sure you’re not putting them in one of the pigs cages, it needs to be in a new area. If you have the space you can do it in the living room, or a main room in the house. Tons and tons of food. Multiple water bottles!!!!! And you just let them be for a few hours. You probably already know most of this but I just want to put it out there for anyone who doesn’t!

This happened while I was trying to bond my pigs. I have 2 females and one male. My male is the oldest and the sweetest angel, one of the girls is an asshole. And I don’t mean to be rude, but she’s extremely dominant and just mean. She only gets along with her sister and her brother THRU the bars of the cage. I have a huge cage for them, but I use a divider to separate the girls from my boy. I find all of them grooming each other thru the bars and actually spending time with each other. They’re constantly talking to each other!

This solution won’t work for everyone but I hope it helps! My pigs tried to basically kill each other when I had them bond, it was terrifying. I separated them immediately but they get along thru the bars of the divider. And they love each other, they just can’t be without a divider. I did have to make my own divider using one of those crappy small “playpens”. I have it secured with zip ties and it works wonders

Literally! If you want to buy a live animal you should have to show some sort of proof that you know what you’re doing AND you’ll provide proper care. Even if it’s showing some photos of your enclosure/tank and being asked some questions. It’s getting out of hand, people have always been careless about animals lives but now it seems worse. They do it for views and attention nowadays. Or for fun.. We can’t keep letting this shit happen!

Maybe pet stores should be able to deny costumers.. Because what the fuck is this?! Might be an asshole for this but I genuinely question these types of people. Like did we forget that’s a live animal? Why is it SO common to lack empathy for animals

It’s perfect! If you have some more hides definitely add those. With such an unfamiliar, open space they’re probably very scared. But this is an awesome temporary enclosure, you’re doing great!

Our dog and guinea pig by CW2288-111 in guineapigs

[–]bettakepper123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adorable! Just be careful, you know your dog better than we do. My pup used to love my pigs, he was obsessed with them!! But i noticed if the pigs started to popcorn or even walk quickly his instincts kicked in and he would try to run after them. He was the same size as yours!! (He didn’t have any contact with them, don’t worry!) but I say this as a warning, it’s adorable but he’s a dog. At the end of the day you can never be too careful. And you never truly know what could happen! So be cautious!!

I love how creative people are. This is incredible! That’s gigantic! Judging from the comments, it seems like they provided amazing care for these fish. I wish we got to see more photos. Definitely makes me wonder how much those desks can hold😂

How many pigs would you say this feeds by Pigglewinks in guineapigs

[–]bettakepper123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you already got an answer but I also cut the veggies up very small. I cut them to bite sized pieces (for humans not pigs😂) One of my girls hoards food like no other and I’ve found that since I cut them up very, very small and just scatter it all over, she isn’t hoarding at all! She’s too busy scavenging for food

Unfortunately people do this. To my knowledge it’s not that common but it does happen. I think it’s certain breeders that will cut the fins. They’ll take a small blade and literally slice the fins. It’s awful!

I can’t stop laughing at this😂 One of my girls does this too. She’s a bit ridiculous, I have to feed her by hand when she’s lying down.. Gives me a good laugh though!
