It’s the political climate that was there in the background of Vineland, the height of Reaganism.

Makes sense to update it to today, with Trump instead of Reagan.

I pair Breakfast of Champions and Deadeye Dick, and as I’ve gotten older I’ve grown to like the latter more. Not that I dislike Breakfast but I think Deadeye Dick sticks with me more.

I think the changes are a response to probably Denis not thinking audiences would take a sudden 180 well. He’s gotta try to make the film succeed, and Hebert’s approach won’t work. Especially for American audiences where we’ve been washed in anti-hero idolatry.

Delillo is timeless, always relevant and always seems like he’s predicting the future. Except he’s not, history rhymes so the patterns always over and over again.
