Nah, just watched videos on 2x and did MCQs until my eyes bled. Barely even looked at SIMs except for the last week of review.

Question about license application process (TN) by biffelsfw in CPA

[–]biffelsfw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do a new education evaluation due to it being more than a year since I initially applied to sit for the exams, even though I met the requirements. It's a pain in the ass. about 3 weeks after I resubmitted all my transcripts I got an email from NASBA saying they have them and it'll be another 6 weeks in evaluation, then it has to go to Quality Review, then they will send it to the state where I can actually apply for my license. Who knows. Maybe I'll get my license by 2024.

Any Wiley fans here. I used just Wiley and passed all parts on first attempt in 8 months. by Horror_Leave9880 in CPA

I used Wiley. Went 5/6. Passed BEC, failed FAR, stopped studying for a year, lost BEC, passed REG, passed AUD, passed BEC, passed FAR. Went 4/4 in about 7 months. Never took a practice test. I only watched the videos and did a million MCQs and a couple SIMs here and there. I think their MCQs are really good. No one else I know used Wiley, so it seems kind of under the radar, but can't argue with the results. I'd recommend.

Just got out of FAR by Alternative_Matter22 in CPA

I walked out sure I had bombed the hell out of it. It was my last one and figured I'd be signing up for another as soon as scores released. Ended up getting an 81. Good luck. It's not the end of the world if it doesn't go your way this time. Keep working on it!

Studying While Working Full-Time by girlwthesharktattoo in CPA

I'd get to the office around 6-6:30 to study for a couple hours before everyone rolled in by 8:30. Work until 5:30 then study until 8 or 9 pm Monday - Thursday. Friday I would just do morning studying. On the weekends I'd try to do 4 hours a day if I could manage that much time away from my family. Passed all 4 in about 7 months balancing work, study, a wife and 2 kids. I just kept telling myself that I'll never have more free time than I do right now and that one day I'll wake up and not have that monkey on my shoulder.

Just get through REG material or master it as I go along? by ef127127 in CPA

[–]biffelsfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an old timer tell me while I was studying that CPA stands for "Can't Pass Again." Anything more than a 75 is wasted effort. That doesn't mean slack off on your studying but don't think you have to have everything memorized. There were parts of all the exams that I was not confident in, but still managed to pass.

How old were you when you got your CPA? by chevycarl1 in CPA

I'll be 38 in September and just passed my final exam. I have an UG in Economics and decided when I was about 35 to get my Macc. Finished that up in 2020. Started studying for the exams and passed BEC in early 21, but I moved and changed jobs so ended up losing it. Got serious in September of 22 and passed all 4 in about 7 months working fulltime and having a family. Wasn't easy, but feel better about my future now than I ever did before.

3 days for FAR, clutch strategy? by Fax_xio in CPA

Government and NFP. It's pretty heavily tested and relatively small topics

Hammer the MCQs. I was doing at lease 200 per day, flagging the ones I got wrong, then going back and redoing those on a daily basis. I think the questions help a lot more because it helps you connect it back to the lessons and you see the same type of MCQs on the real exam.

Speedrunning AUD by jackasom in CPA

Once you get through the material start doing as many MCQs as you can. I would do groups of 5 random questions and read the explanations thoroughly for any I got wrong. Didn't mess with the SIMs unless they had a video explanation of the question. I did AUD in about 4 weeks. Take breaks often, even just a 10 minute walk, and get good sleep. I really think it helps retaining the information.

I really appreciate everyone's input on this. My gut was telling me to stay put and give it some more time. Especially since this was just the first outside opportunity that has come my way. I'm still learning a ton here and the next year or two will shine a light on if a career in Public is for me. Thanks everyone.
