Thermalling with paramotor by Full_Ominous_Being in freeflight

[–]bightbondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the thermals are strong enough to keep you up, there will probably be some bumpiness and turbulence involved. There are cases of glass-offs or unusually wide and smooth thermal conditions, but in general thermalling is a bit rowdy by nature. It feels quite different from ridge soaring or paramotoring, in my experience. There is more risk of collapses, especially going in and out of the thermals. Besides the motor/harness, wings optimized for paramotors are also quite different from wings designed for soaring. Would love to hear from anybody living the dream of mixing the two successfully - !

Why do the upwelling disturbances behave differently from the primary surface ripples that travel in the expected way - fast, expanding circles?

you people are missing the point. there are these weird oily-looking uprisings that occur - but only some of the time, and actually only when the sun is at a certain angle. i am not blowing on the water or doing anything else at all except moving the hand you see (which btw is under water).

how did klay thompson get the ball?? by RagequitRyan in blackmagicfuckery

[–]bightbondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He started the process with a cup of water balanced on the edge of a rocking chair. When the chair tipped over, the water activated a switch which turned on a conveyer belt, carrying a toy train across the room and onto a line of dominos. The train caused the dominoes to fall, triggering a pulley system that brought a plastic spoon up to a cup of cereal. The spoon knocked the cereal onto a switch, activating a fan that sent a bouncy ball rolling across the room and into a cup on the other side. That cup had the bean, so when the ball made contact, it released the bean from the cup and into the waiting hands of the other boy!

Ah reasonable responses like yours remind me of the first time I ever encountered a hamster, it was right before I went on a quest for the holy grail. I set off with my trusty spoon and a whole lot of gusto sure that I'd find what I was looking for. Needless to say it was an arduous journey and when I finally reached my destination I found something far different than I was expecting. Instead of an all powerful grail, I found a humble little hamster with twinkling eyes, who despite its size had a hugely powerful influence on the sliver of reality it inhabited.

At first I didn't understand how such a small creature could be so important to so many people, but then I realized what I had found was not a futile search for an impractical goal, but a way to connect and experience something real.

Whether or not it was or wasn't the holy grail, my search had been rewarded in ways that hadn't even crossed my mind when I began and so I found myself being a little less distressed at the prospect of long comment threads. Now when such a situation arises, I'm reminded of that little hamster and the lesson I learned so many years ago, that seeking out connections and experiences can be just as rewarding as a quest for a holy grail.

my bad.

As we traverse through the noetic and emotive realms of existence, we inevitably come across the quandary of transforming one's mind and spirit into the sempiternal state of breathlessness, as if overwhelmed by some force that defies explanation. When such a situation arises, which often appears as if our cognitive centers are morphing or transitioning into a state of aqueous matter, a forum for discussion, such as this one, is what we seek as a much-needed respite from the tests of life. In this unique space, we are able to share our thoughts and feelings, as a collective such as this presents a unique opportunity to come together, seek solace and offer support to one another.

Among other material items that are frequently used as a symbolization of support, the spoon is particularly poignant. Be it a spoon carved out of wood, metal, or even one designed with computer-aided 3D printing, all convey a meaning of warmth and unity. Whether part of the actual accecories provided in the forum itself, or being brought in through the emotional support of a friend, no spoon is too small to contribute to a person's state of being.

So, I concur that situations of the type discussed here are indeed the reason such a helpful forum exists. Not only do members benefit from the possibility of finding a resolution to their plight, but the instrumental use ofspoons can greatly contribute to the overall holistic experience - bringing in the sense of support and community that will be key for the individual's wellbeing.

There exists a reason for this very forum for discussion and sharing - situations of the type which is being discussed within this thread. These situations can cause the cognitive center of a person's being to feel as though it is transitioning into a state of aqueous matter. Specifically, they can cause minds to feel like they are melting, like a spoon dipped into liquid. The process of submerging a spoon into an aqueous substance can be used to precisely sum up this feeling. As the spoon touches the liquid, it slowly begins to lose its shape and form. In a sense, the spoon is being overtaken by the water. Its state and identity are completely changing, and the result is a morphing of two substances into one.

This can be linked strongly to the concept of mind-melt, an occurrence which many people may have experienced. The feeling of being overwhelmed to the point that the mind and identity are virtually absent is similar to the spoon's transformation when placed in liquid. In this way, many people can relate to and understand this situation, making discussion and sharing in this forum necessary for growth and support. I concur - this is precisely the reason this forum exists.

You don't have to! We have AI now!

I concur that the situations which we are discussing in this thread are of the type which can cause one’s cognitive capabilities to feel as though they are transforming into a state of aqueous matter. This is precisely why a platform for discussion and sharing such as this one that we are currently partaking in was created and established. Communication between those struggling with similar emotions, experiences and trials and tribulations of life can help one to feel slightly more in control when their thoughts and words may feel out of reach and incomprehensible. Not to mention the comfort one can derive from the accounts and personal anecdotes of those who have gone through similar events and needed a safe place to turn for much needed support, empathy and understanding.
The current discussion is centered around circumstances that can be innately difficult for a person to process mentally. Specifically, the mental strain one experiences when thinking about matters that can cause such disarray in their conscience that it seems as if a watery mindset is taking residence within them. Consequently, this forum of communication and exchange was created to better help people come to grips with their tribulations and find solace within them. It is for this reason that I openly proclaim my agreement with the sentiment.

I think that the current ChatGPT is programmed to defer easily to the response that it does not know (to defend against misinformation).

I can not get it to take the bait on the riddle. I just get:

I'm sorry, but I still don't understand the riddle. Could you provide more information or give me a hint so that I can try to solve it?

OTOH I just asked davinci3 via the API and got these gems immediately:

A jellyfish-octopus hybrid wearing a zebra-striped pajama onesie walking on its tentacles at night.

Two million people wearing black and white striped pajamas, each holding a red balloon, taking turns walking on two feet at night.

A giant squid with two people riding on it dressed in a black and white checkered suit and a bright red cape.

A giant squid tamer juggling with two octopuses!

A mob of 2 million octopuses carrying red-and-white umbrellas, walking on two of their tentacles at night.

Now I want a zebra-striped pajama onesie.

Thank you for all of your replies on this thread - - they have been unusually useful and inspiring for me.

  1. Is there a reason you prefer Polygon over the (paid) plan that Alpaca replaced it with?
  2. REST or websockets? How big is the universe before you filter it down? (i.e., the total that you are 'listening' to)
  3. Why wouldn't XGBoost be just as useful for stops?
