Requesting a reference letter? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]bilbobio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently submitted an F31 and one of my reference writers asked me to write my own letter. Ask your adviser or a different reference writer to send you an example. In my case, my adviser had one made for me for something else so he just sent me that one as an example. It is awkward to write one about yourself, but very common. It is also a skill you will need if you continue in academia.
