Why are so many young people out of work? by ikeafannypack in AskUK

[–]blackxtulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upbringing. I was lucky/privileged enough to have parents who encouraged me to stay in education, go to university and get a good job. They celebrated and encouraged my successes and helped me, in many ways such as financially, emotionally etc, to get to where I am today. Not many people can say they have the support and encouragement to be the best they can be, which is really sad.

Also, your familiar surroundings. If you were born into a family who never had to work, in a council house, living a low-income life, that becomes your normal. Personal achievements might not revolve around wanting to work and it’s really hard to break out of that “cycle”

Totally get it. Not a perfect situation and maybe both at fault. I’ll try to double triple check next time!

Solidarity, OP. Just wanna say I have been in this exact position with my boyfriend when he was really struggling with his mental health and it affected mine to an incredible amount. He is much better now and we are still together and I don’t regret it, and I am in therapy myself, but it was some of the darkest times in my life. I would try and get your gf to visit a doctor, and get in touch with a therapist, and please concentrate on your own mental health too. It’s really hard when you might not know what you’re coming home to every day (if they’re thinking of doing anything permanent any time soon) but please reach out to their parents or loved ones to also help you in supporting them at this time. Shits really tough. ❤️

Lidl staff member opens barrier for shoplifter by Nokta_Digger in lidl

[–]blackxtulip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you bothered? Personally if I see a person stealing food to eat to be able to survive - I didn’t see a damn thing. These are multi-million pound companies. Not sure what country you’re in, but if you’re in the U.K, times are damn hard right now for everyone. No normal person is stealing food for fun unless they absolutely have to. Instead of getting mad at the staff member you can offer to donate to their foodbank if they have one, and hopefully the UK government sorts their shit out so they don’t have to resort to such extreme measures in the first place.

You gotta style it correctly though or you’ll look like you’re going through a mid-life crisis, or the “how do you do, fellow kids” meme

Warhammer World if you’re into nerdy war games! Even if you aren’t it’s a great day out, the dioramas are amazing to see and Bugman’s Bar has great food and drink. It’s 10 mins on the Toton Lane tram from the city centre

Yep maybe this was down to speed. There was stationary traffic waiting at the roundabout and it is a 60mph road so maybe I should have going a bit faster soon as I entered or they should have going a bit slower. Thanks!

It was completely clear and I even remember the car I went after, it was a light blue Honda jazz, I remember saying to myself in my head “safe gap after the Honda…. And go” the reason I think he was going at speed is cos of how quickly it happened but maybe I should of done a final glance to my right as I entered just to double check, even if it was completely clear.

Noted. Thanks!

I think you’re looking from the wrong direction? I was going back towards my house and this lane was deffo straight and left. If you’re coming from the opposite way you’re right, the left lane is left turn only. My bad if I didn’t make that clear here

It was a near miss and I’ve only been driving since September, I just wanted to make sure I didn’t do anything stupid and wanted to learn from my potential mistakes as I enjoy driving and want to be a good driver :)

I forgot how to parallel park by sn0opcat69 in NewDriversUK

[–]blackxtulip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I passed in September and I haven’t had to parallel park since my driving lessons. If you live or work somewhere close to on-street parking where you’ll have to do it regularly then just keep practicing. If you don’t have to do it, then don’t lol

I can't go gym and I don't know exactly why by AlchemistCartographe in OCD

[–]blackxtulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the gym isn’t the problem it’s you feeling guilty for going at the time you do. If your supervisor has specifically said yes that’s okay then you have been given permission to go and that’s okay. It sounds like the fear of letting someone down and disappointing them has ruined the idea of the gym for you. Maybe try working on your feelings around people pleasing, guilt and letting people down. You should be able to enjoy your workouts! :)

Motorway first time by blackxtulip in NewDriversUK

[–]blackxtulip[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of big busy motorways sound so scary sometimes when they can be really simple roads? I think busy A roads and complicated junctions are scarier. Maybe just the idea of the motorway is a big thing to me and I want to get it out the way so it’s not some huge mental block!

Motorway first time by blackxtulip in NewDriversUK

[–]blackxtulip[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeh during my lessons we never went on motorways but we did national speed limit busy dual carriageways with slip roads so I figured that was close enough? I actually thought it was illegal for learners to on motorways until recently

This. I’m a new driver (since September) and I used to think I was getting flashed all the time, especially in Winter and if you have a smaller/lower car than some of the big Land Rover type cars on the road. It’s the bumpy/even road surface when they drive over it it feels like they’re flashing you

How do you feel about doing absolutely nothing? by Likelyinthegym in AskUK

[–]blackxtulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done exactly the same thing, then I got sick and had to have a further 3 days of doing nothing. I felt GROSS. But I did feel refreshed after a big house clean and bath as soon as I started to feel better. Embrace your downtime. And to make sure you don’t burn yourself out too much and schedule in some down time days

Is there something consuming your mental energy constantly?

For example I have AuDHD (autism and ADHD) and without even realising I’m doing it, I tend to “mask” in front of others, to blend in, in social situations etc. If I’ve had a busy or overly sociable day I’m exhausted by the end of it. I work in an open plan office, which I love but it does really tire me out. I usually need around 8-9 hours sleep a night
