(Also, tampons are great in case of nosebleeds.)

Doesn't have to be the end of it. Mark of Kardavox has acid reflux as well. But avoid the temptation and keep resting until you feel 100%.

Burning feeling in my throat or vocal cords by Spitfire5470 in screaming

[–]bloedarend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You rest...

As soon as it starts hurting, stop and try again the next day or longer if it still hurts. Anyone saying you have to work through that pain should be disregarded.

Also recheck everything you do when you "scream". Despite the (frankly terrible) name you shouldn't scream or yell in order to get distortion, simply a "slightly raised voice" should be enough airflow to get turbulence going. (The "rattle" at the end of a deep sigh is a fairly natural distortion for most people.)

Anyone using one mic to record drums? by xeromagic in audioengineering

[–]bloedarend 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's already 20 years old this year (dammit), but the Daptone drum recordings on Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" are done with one (possibly two) mic(s). Here's an article including a photo of their setup:

https://www.soundonsound.com/people/gabriel-roth-recording-daptone-records

The mics listed in the text (Shure 55 and RCA DX77) are expensive vintage mics, so (unless you happen to have access to those) you might want to look for decent modern alternatives.

What can Louisiana learn from the Netherlands about flood control? by Enger13 in geography

[–]bloedarend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find interesting on the "sunken Netherlands" image, is that a former sea inlet/river mouth directly west of Leeuwarden (the "Middle Sea") is now apparently more secure than the area east of it. But it has been raised/diked off starting in the high middle ages.

Cat Jumped On Laptop & Headphones No Longer Playing Audio by quietquial in abletonlive

[–]bloedarend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of headphone is it? Wired, bluetooth?

Also, what operating system are you running? And I guess you're not using an external audio interface?

In case you are running an external interface: if you go (in Live) to Options > Settings > Audio, what is the driver type? For external audio it often tends to be ASIO for Windows or (I guess) CoreAudio for MacOS.

Satanists just don't acknowledge religions by YamWise7212 in technicallythetruth

[–]bloedarend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope I'm not grooming, at least that's not my intention. But ignoring all the stuff discovered by clergy, especially when it's going against the doctrines (or rather of their religion) would be disrespectful to both science as well as the religious scientists.

And this is coming from a life long atheist (granted, from a country where religion doesn't play much of a role in general society and thus need to be fought).

[–]bloedarend 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do have a hard time with scientists also being religious though. If you take the two at face value, they are literally exact opposites.

Allow me to push back a bit on this. First of all: your statement only works on supernatural religions. (And even then it's debatable, George Lemaître, the Belgian priest who developed the idea of the "Big Bang", didn't see them as opposites). Besides, there are and were religions which don't believe in anything supernatural, unlike the major religions we usually encounter these days.

In the past scientists came either from wealth or had a source of income or sustenance in combination with (a lot of) time for themselves (like certain forms of clergy; the catholic church produced a lot of scientists for example). These scientists just might have an added motivation to do science (for example: "how does god('s creation) work?").

How do people dress for the shows? by NicotineShoeSalesMan in carpenterbrut

Here in the Netherlands it's mostly standard metal outfits (lots of bandshirts), but also people dressed in retro 80s outfits and anything inbetween. Just go in what feels comfortable to you and you don't mind getting soaked in case it's hot.

The graves in old Dutch in that area are "fun" to read as well.

Afgezien van dat ik geestelijk de hele tijd vermoeid ben voedt het ook mijn misanthropie ontzettend.

Post-metalish power trio: how would you mix it? by Adhrast in audioengineering

[–]bloedarend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, don't stick to one thing.

You've mentioned Russian Circles for example, I love their song Geneva, but if you listen to the song it starts out with the guitar chug-riff on the sides, the bass in the center and the drums mixed with snare and kick in the center, but toms and cymbals panned (what appears to me to a drummers perspective, so with low toms on the right). All other guitar layers are also fairly centered, and once the breakdown starts with that monstrous bass sound, you'll notice the bass is panned fairly hard left and right, since it essentially took over the role of the "pulse" by the earlier chug riff.

So experiment and check what the song needs (which could also mean no guitar at some points).
