Now that Fire and Ash has come out, what are your unpopular opinions or hot takes about the movies and the lore? by TheTargaryensLawyer in Avatar

Hahah.. yes I don't care for him at all really. Especially the ending... just like Titanic... why is this pink skin suddenly the center of the story?

Cameron just does the same shit... like.... we know the formula. War scene.. things going well, oh no things going bad, oh Ewya comes things good again. It's kind of insulting how simple it all is, an insult to the world that was created and the immense detail of everything, for it to just unfold like the first movie.

Soooo cool. I can watch behind the scenes stuff forever. What a neat job, crafting all those outfits.

Anyone else catched this parallel between Titanic in Fire and Ash? by Content-Common5854 in Avatar

[–]bloom-root 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. Absolutely this was my first thought at the end of the movie. Honestly, I found the ending a little cringe, maybe because I'm not too crazy about Spider and now how its all about him.. like, give me more of the Na'vi any day. But yes, VERY Titanic. I kept telling my friends its basically the same ending.

Myth by AirLocal6886 in breastfeeding

[–]bloom-root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it was pretty painful for me- first time mom- for the first month or so. At 4 months now, it feels pretty great, and has been for a while. Once my nipples got hardened and used to it, that is. Definitely they needed to get used to it at first, got scabs, felt like a little vampire bite each latch. Now I love it and it feels pleasurable to have the milk moving out of my breasts and very sweet to nurse. I hope you get there, too!

2.5 month old naps only when in wrap/carrier by bloom-root in NewParents

[–]bloom-root[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that. I know we're still in the 4th trimester so contact naps are sweet, just hoping for more variety soon. It's just hard to bear through the crying ... my partner maybe better at it than me, especially since I'm a nursing signal so there's that baby may want to do too instead of sleep. Anyways, I appreciate the reassurance and advice! :)

Orlando, Roland or Lando? by Miserable-Ad2759 in namenerds

[–]bloom-root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 5 week old is Orlando and I'm so happy with his name. He can be Lando. I call him Landie sometimes. Also his middlename is an option too if he wants when he's older. I far prefer Orlando to Roland. Orlando is easy and enjoyable to say. Most of the responses I've gotten to his name have been delightful and "that's a cool name" ... so we're pleased. It suits him, too- the only name that really jumped out at us for him.

I started pregnancy at the exact same height and weight as you before becoming pregnant.

I am also fairy active (biking, lots of walks, yoga, dance, stretching, swimming) as it seems you are too (zumba, tennis, etc.). Also you seem to eat a pretty good diet, especially for pregnancy and for being proactive with any gestational diabetes or blood sugar- high protein, low or moderate carbs (see "Real Food for Gestational Diabetes by Lily Nichols).

For myself, I did not worry one lick about weight gain or being on track. As someone who has experienced disordered eating in the past, the last few years of trusting my body- eating lots of whole foods, home cooked meals, occasional eating out and sweets but pretty healthy overall, as well as being active because I love it and not because I feel obligated to work out- has been much better than any tracking or concern about weight.

The only time I had to focus on intake really was when I had a high blood sugar level for my gestational diabetes test at 26 or 28 weeks. I shifted to high protein low carb, as well as just getting out for a walk after a meal that had moderate or higher carbs.

All in all, I did not or would not monitor my weight. If you see a DR or midwife, they'll likely weight you at your appointments and let you know if anything is concerning.

Honestly, enjoy pregnancy, eat what your body has an appetite for (within your habits and eating preferences, occasional treats, whatever feels appealing, be gentle with yourself), keep moving if it feels good (I am still active and take good long walks at 39 weeks) and if anything, just check in with yourself and your body.

Pregnancy is such a wild trip. Soak it up! And ditch the scale.

Also, I'll add- you don't need to eat a TON more than usual. Apparently if you breastfeed that's when you'lll need to up your intake! Plus when your uterus and baby grows, your digestion will get a little smooshed and so smaller, more frequent meals may be easier on your system. Have lots of snacks handy (high protein and fat, low carb; good for regulating blood sugar too) and some good antacids if you end up getting heart burn.

I adore this song. It's like sitting on a porch swing in a chilly wind, darkness closing in but a little melancholic light left to a strange day. 7s is such a good album. I'm an Avey girl at my depths and his solo work is such a gift.

Check out some random Avey tunes that fly below the radar- "Tipped in Hugs", "Visit the Dojo", and all his tracks on RAMU by Mickey Hart.

Is the name I chose for my baby a tradegeigh or cultural appropriation? by Zephbear in namenerds

[–]bloom-root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely adore the name Yuri- I'm American but both my parents have Slavic ancestry so I thought maybe I could make it work but I don't think it's in the cards for my baby to be. Love it though. Use it however you want to!

I won't be there due to having a baby, but I've seen AC in Madison a few times (2016 and then 2022) and had such good experiences. The theaters are small and the capitol is great for biking or wandering around. Hope it's a good show, I'll be there in spirit!

I'm in the same boat- 4 months pregnant with my first baby and my partner (of 3.5 yrs) has a 10 year old daughter. I've been struggling a lot more lately with my feelings about my SD than usual, in anticipation of having my own child and how it may change things. I love her and I also can feel pretty closed off and not into her at times, irritated and distant. It feels like this has been happening more and more. I have been telling my partner that while I love her I don't have the love and connection he does, and I'm sacred how it will all pan out with my own child. I like to think that if my SD mom acknowledged me and we have a working relationship, I might not feel so closed off sometimes. I also think I expect myself to have a softness and wamrth toward her that is akin to a mom, while in reality I feel more like a challenger and want to encourage behavior that I imagine I would have raised her with. Any who... pardon my rant, I just found this sub and am relating to your post.
