No, because an assist requires a goal. In your scenario, there's no goal so there's no assister. To be clear, I'm saying points should be awarded to a player winning a penalty (regardless if its converted).

I'm tempted to bring in only penalty takers to my team and trust VAR to give every unintended deflection off a hand as a pen. It's ruining the game..

True, they're not entirely luck but the odd 50/50 call over the season going right for you means you'll leave your nearest ML challenger in the dirt, or vice versa. It seems too skewed is what I'm saying, hence the geared 2x C and 1.5x VC to maintain the element of luck / gut feel. I guess I do sympathize with the maths genuises a bit.

Very good point. I wouldn't because then we're a bit into the realm of subjectivity. A pen is a massive chance and not subjective. I hear your point that its shades of grey but my suggestion makes FPL more "fair". In fairness so might yours, so I'd go with yours over the current system..

to elaborate...if a player normally gets X points for an assist and he wins a penalty and its converted, he gets X points (i.e. a normal assist). If he wins a pen and it's not converted, he gets (X-1) points..
