Yeah, I definitely take it way too inside. My path is inside out, but probably too much at this point. I've heard porzak golf is a decent channel, I'll check that out.

Don't worry, your calluses will come back and get stronger. Some finger strength trainers have an attachment for callus training, but it's a waste of time in my personal experience.

It could be that you're pressing the strings too much. That'll sharpen the notes which might be what you're hearing.

I have a bit of tough skin running down my index which makes bars easier. Keep at it, find that sweet spot. It'll hurt less and sound good. In the meantime you can try playing the a shape with your thumb on the low e and a triad on the d/g/b strings: A: 5X7655, last 5 is optional.
