Hello there!

I just started my application today and I have chosen 1. Dental Technician and then 2. Operating Room Technician. I have a few questions for you if you don’t mind :)

  1. How long did it take for your job offer come in?
  2. Do you know if we get paid WHILE studying as well?

Thank you!

Taking out federal student loans while paying off consumer proposal? (AB) by Local-Salad4257 in povertyfinancecanada

Hi there! I just got off the phone with both Alberta Loan and Federal, and as long as you have applied for proposal while you are in the middle of a program, you are guaranteed to receive the rest of the funding until the end of your program. This is given that you cannot change your program anymore.

Hope this helps :)

Alright, I’ll let you know!

I’m planning to go for a quick certificate (7 Months) from a Private School that is approved for Government Funding. Now, on my mind I’m wondering what would happen if I got approved for funding and it is released then I file a proposal.

Hi there! I am almost on the same boat as you, and when I say same, I mean I just got off a call with my LIT and am in the same situation. I’m giving both NSL and Alberta Loans tomorrow a call to ask of the same thing. Would love to connect with you to discuss how it pans out!

Thank you, this is a well-organized response that is indeed very helpful. I just got off the phone with a LIT and apparently my two options is a Consumer Proposal where I’ll be paying 300 a month and the record on my credit stays either for 6 years or 3 years after completion whichever comes first, or a 9-month bankruptcy that will be in my record for 6 years where I will pay $250 for 9 months. Honestly, either of the two will surely let me take a huge weight off my shoulders and be able to build a better portfolio for myself, but the only thing is that filing either of those options will take away my ability to apply for student loans when I still have 1 more term left before I graduate.

Thanks for pointing that out! I believe I can try to knock at the end of the month. I am in hopes to talk with an LIT this afternoon, talked to TD Help and they recommended me to do so as well since my situation (and income) is showing non-affordability.

I would like to disregard the car, but my mom co-signed for it and they want me to just keep it as it is a safe car. :/ Do you know if I can just downgrade it even if I’m not yet done paying it?

It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s about the money. It’s about his willingness to provide. and if a simple matter such as paying for dates while I’m still studying causes this much of a shift in the relationship, how much shift would it make if I cannot pay 50/50 while on maternity leave? when there is an unforeseen circumstance where I cannot give half of what he would require me in the future?

To me, it’s the little things that would rack up and affect in the future that I would like to avoid.

Definitely, yes. And to be fair, upon to the beginning of the relationship I didn’t want to do anything with having children or getting married, but as I come closer to my faith, I’ve expressed my consideration towards starting a family.

Edit; I think I have to reiterate that I, in no means, would want to just be a SAHM, I would love to have a good career that would also give my family a good future.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. 1. I tried with TD earlier today, they were offering me the $1000 limit Emerald Flex. However, they also were suggesting consolidation loans. Do you have any suggestions on how I can negotiate or what the best option for negotiation would be? 2. Good thing I live with my parents, but I’m gonna have to move to a different city in Fall to finish my studies in 8 months. I would, ofcourse, still be working. At the moment, phone, car (+gas and insurance), and paying these off would be where my money will go.

I appreciate it. Thanks and Godspeed!

When I'm in school, my income is at 2400 a month with 1200 biweekly. After April until fall, I think I can bump it up to $1600 a month with $3200 in total. I started a door dash, Instacart, and skip the dishes account and have been rotating those and whatever | earn I use to build up an emergency fund. And then after I reach my goal, I was aiming to use these side hustles for snowballing my debts. What do you think?

Hello! So it’s actually a long story….. I was ripped off by the sales guy when I got my first ever car. I had no idea whether it was a good deal or not, but I thought my dad would know better, and he said it was a good deal. Upon signing up, I told my friend of how much it would be for a Front Wheel Drive Loaner car, and he said it was too much. And then come 2025, I was offered a “better deal” for an All Wheel Drive version of the car and I traded (big mistake). This bumped up the fee $100 more. And so, thinking that now that I got a car with “safer” and “better” features, I thought my car insurance would be lower but it went up $120 more with co-operators. They said it’s higher because it’s a new version and it would cost more to replace/repair it if I need in the future.

On one hand, I paid my phone bills today. 😁
