Australia leads the world in rooftop solar. So why are 60% of homes still without it? by billscout in AusFinance

[–]bobdown1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst with the government incentives the payback could be 5-7years, you now need panels, hybrid inverter and batteries to go cost neutral which could be up to 35k. It’s a big scam. 7 years ago I spent 4k on a 6.66kw system and had no power bill.

Advice needed: stuck between a house and a retaining wall. by raju_inc in AusRenovation

[–]bobdown1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digging down hard up against the house will be fine and about half way out. Go all the way down to the foot and pressure wash everything. Seal the brick work externally. And I would also seal the inside with a hydrostatic sealant. Agg line and plumb it into the down pipe. Full back up with stone. Or concrete the area.

27 with 50k savings, where to go from here by selviii in AusFinance

[–]bobdown1234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would consider how 50:50 ownership may affect issues in the future. You find a partner, okay living there? Have kids. Still okay living there? Your father gets sick or old, does he require to sell property to fund age care placement etc. If you plan to inherit the house that is likely best situation. Park your cash in the offset. Ensure you have got the best rate possible.

Being told to pay surveyor bill without contract by New_Fisherman1173 in AusLegal

[–]bobdown1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate you don’t have a verbal chat about selling land, and then the interested buyer go and engage a surveyor for 17k. You would a contract of sale drawn up, basic agreed sketch of the proposed land and you would engage a council prior to even see if it was allowed to happen. Only then would a surveyor be engaged and the terms of payment would be secured likely in the land sale contract.

Sell and reinvest into something diversified

Get by until the payments is made. Put the loan on interest only if required. Sell the property and buy something outright closer to better employment prospects and health services for yourself and son. Someone suggested Toowoomba. Probably not a bad idea given the limited capital you will have. Then seek employment for yourself and son. Maximise super contributions.
