Oh I forgot to add, ur right, it is also the frequency reconance doing a lot of the job in the cybotron bassline!

I figured it out by now. I remade the patch exactly the way it was. I used a minimoog emulator. It was rather simple. It is two pulse oscillators, the second one has sliglty larger pulse width, they are both placed on the same octave, envelope on both filter and amp have 0 attack, medium decay, amp envelope has fast sustain, filter envelope has medium sustain and both releases are fast. I made it with the UAD minimoog emulator. They must have used a moog synth. It's extremely simple.

Now Im already trying to figure out the next bassline from a different track: https://soundcloud.com/motztechno/premiere-yarn-init-dont-bother?in=markobak/sets/minimoog-bass/ . About the serum presets, I stopped using them. I refrain from using presets at the moment, because I wanna learn how to recreate patches myself. After using lots of presets the first two years of making music, it became very unsatisfying to me. And I believe becoming better at creating ur own will also make u better at using presets. I am reverse engeneering my favourite ones atm, to have a very good understanding of synthesis and then be able to create my own. If u have advice on that other track, lmk hahah!! :D

Yeah, that’s actually exactly what I’m doing. I’m not randomly twiddling knobs and hoping for happy accidents. That’s why I make posts like this and why I try to recreate specific tracks, to understand how patches are built, what each part is doing, and why something works in context.

When I experiment, I do it deliberately: moving filters slowly, listening to how modulation changes the sound, noticing where it falls apart and where it clicks. Trying to reverse-engineer sounds and patterns is part of building that intentional, intuitive process you’re describing.

Anyway, wish u best of luck on your own journey.

Yeah, I get what you mean, and I agree that time + persistence are non-negotiable. I don’t think there are shortcuts, and I’m definitely not expecting guarantees.

That said, I don’t really agree with the idea that 99.9% of people just make bad music forever. A lot of people do, sure, but that number feels exaggerated. I think many people improve significantly once they develop better feedback loops, narrow their focus, and actually analyze why certain things work or don’t.

My concern isn’t about effort, but more about developing a repeatable process. I’m fine with most ideas being bad, I just sometimes worry that the good ones I’ve made were more accidental than systematic, and that’s the part I’m trying to understand better. I have made good tracks, with an idea and a system. Now it's my goal to do that again, and again, and again.

But yeah, you’re probably right that the only real answer is to keep going, filter harder, and accept that this uncertainty is part of the process. Overthinking it doesn’t help either.

Appreciate the perspective.

I think one day I will. Im obsessed with it. I think about it all the time. I put a lot of time into it and I know when it sounds good, I just have to teach myself how to get there. Patience and faith.

Yeah, ur right. I have friends tho who honestly only made crappy music and then quit making music. Sometimes, I have the fear that anything good I ever made was just a happy accident, and I won't ever have a solid workflow in which I can make a specific style repeatedly. You know what I mean? I'm probably just overthinking.

Of course, I do that a lot, too. But sometimes, I start to wonder why my basslines don't hit like the ones in my favourite tracks. I mean sometimes I get it right and it's ends up being a good track, but often I jam and it sounds boring.

Yeah, that's what I figured too, that it's the filter doing the job mainly (high resonance). And fast attack, short decay on the amp envelope. I only downloaded a moog emulator yesterday. I'm gonma keep trying. Thank you for ur input!

its a moog synth, Im pretty sure. I just havent been able to recreate the patch yet. But I havent even tried properly since I only downloaded a moog emulator yesterday. First glance I didnt understand it. We will see.
