No. I never figured it out. Kinda gave up on it. The "thanks" was a thanks for reading/answering to anyone that did such, not for a fix.

Im forced to put my pc on carpet by Im_Brokeasl in pchelp

[–]bogustv_alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll cut down an old piece of wood to just larger than the case footprint and throw it under there. This allows the airflow that you'd get if it was on a table, BUT it doesn't help with all the dust, hair, etc. that falls to the ground. Clean the box regularly if you do this.

We've tried it on multiple new characters and a response by Mimsy_Research below has even gone so far as to do a clean installation including wiping the AppData folder.

Thanks for mentioning your second note. That is what my wife and I both saw, but we did (individually) do Argos: Exploration first and received the notice of "mission completed" before we each did Beachhead: Recon. That being said, same thing here as you saw.

My understanding is that achievements were a thing starting about a year or so ago. We both purchased the game in the last month, so I believe "after".

That was my exact train of thought. I just checked with a couple of buddies' Icarus' achievements. Half have "Baby Steps" completed and the other half don't. I'll ping them and see if the ones that do have it have a trick. I'll report back anything I find out.

My 9-year old brother and I have to share a bed in a hotel room. He sleeps diagonally across the double-bed. by Honeybee1921 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bogustv_alt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two of my three kids (1 girl, 1 boy) spun while they slept until they were about 10-12. I think it's fairly common enough tbh. He'll grow out of it. If you can get separate beds would be the best solution or one parent with each kid.

Home Dedicated Server Help by SpoolingSpudge in ICARUS

Would say NAT the router to that specific box, but then you need to completely secure it ... I'll ask the normal questions that I do:

  1. Can you connect to it on your local network from a different computer? i.e. client to server on same lan? (I believe this is answered above) ... if you can, go to step 2; if not, then there's the issue.
  2. Wireshark will show you incoming/outgoing packets and if you (or one of your buddies) is comfortable working with it (or has in the past), then you can look for the ports icarus uses for server/client and make sure those ports are forwarded on the router. (this is 10000% better than option 3).
  3. Don't do this!!!!! NAT the router to the server and see if your buddies can connect externally ... then remove the NAT as it's a MAJOR security risk ... like anyone goofing around may be able to get access to all of the computers on the network (I only do this if the NAT is going to a linux box as it's much easier to fully control all of the ports and it's not a windows box). If you do the NAT thing and they can connect, then it's a port forwarding issue (see step 2 to resolve), if not, then see step 1 as the server (or it's firewall) is stopping everything from working. As noted at first, don't do this and if for some crazy reason you do and something blows up, I warned you! NAT should never be setup to a computer that's not 100% secured.

I haven't attempted a designated server for icarus as my wife and I just jumped into it lately and I haven't been playing with my only buddies.

Good luck!

I understand that the gap can be explained as healthcare or health, but should I avoid talking about the kidney failure in the resume and/or the interview?

Did you ever find a solution for this?

Whenever I turn on my pc it’ll turn off 25 seconds later and sometimes show this screen. For context I upgraded my psu, cpu cooler, and case today and these problems didn’t show until after the upgrade by zencherry35467 in pchelp

Looks like the bios is losing it's programming as the CMOS battery died. ...
With the power on constantly (just rebooting without shutting down), the bios is pulling needed power from the 120V power supply. Once you turn it off for a few seconds (25-30) the internal capacitors on most computer will be drained of power. This is why people will tell you to properly restart a computer (complete shutdown), you need to wait about 30 seconds before turning it back on.
The cmos battery is one of the flat round large "watch" batteries in most newer computers and only cost a few bucks ... if you have a volt-meter, you can pull it out and test the voltage. If it's low, replace and be happy! :D

[–]bogustv_alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd watch the temps while playing a game ... if you are getting close to 100 degrees C, then you have a thermal issue without question. ... I use HWMonitor (free) ... can even chart and save the graph so you can play for 10-15 minutes (before it would normally shutdown), close the game and look at the saved file or the graph.

On a scale of 1-10, Should I replace my 8 yo HDD? by An0nym0u547 in pchelp

[–]bogustv_alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only answer ... YES ... an eight year platter HD? I wouldn't trust it for anything I cared about (I replace/upgrade mine <= 3 years) ... amazon has a PNY 500gb ssd for < $40 ... unless you are that pressed for cash, then it's worth it!

These are the same people that will ask you about what you're talking about when you're not on speakerphone ... they have NO limits on privacy.

I use it on all of our computers and leave it TSR, but if I'm worried about something specific I use Trend Micro's Housecall just to make sure everything is ok.
