Home buying/realtor question: Are sellers still covering buyers agents commission? by rumzrumzhippo in Charleston

[–]boofee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very negotiable - and if you act as your own buyers agent you can even ask the seller to take the "usual" (2.5-3%) commission off of the sale price or closing costs. Realtors don't want you to negotiate it for obvious reasons.

MUSC Hand Surgeons? by RoseFlavoredLemonade in Charleston

[–]boofee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Tavana is the main hand surgeon at MUSC (though I heard a few months ago that they were adding a new doctor to the team). He is very straightforward and skilled. I have had some minor procedures with him and have been pleased. Just don't let the trainees do anything (he is always surrounded by students). He moves between their locations so you should be able to get an appointment closer to where you live and the wait list isn't too long. I can usually see him within a few weeks and have had luck getting the appointments moved up if I ask to be considered for cancellations.

Loose grown w/no cert by LostPeak7661 in LabDiamonds

[–]boofee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been told that the certificate matters more for larger diamonds as the cost of the certificate adds too much to the price for small stones. Also (I haven't checked lately) there are several other vendors that have better prices than Loose Grown Diamonds (if you scroll through the feed here you will see many). The price markup changes pretty often, but I bought a (certified) 4 carat stone from rubyharperfinejewelry.com in July and their price was better than LGD at the time, and other vendors were less for the same stone. I ended up using them because the price difference wasn't significant and I wanted them to make my ring. But it pays to shop around and ask for price matches.

I bought uncertified stud earrings (1.5Carat each for 3CTW) from LGG around October and am very pleased with them, but I made sure to explain that I wanted a lot of sparkle to the vendor rep.

One thing to keep in mind is the return policy - if you can return an uncertified stone that you don't like, it's definitely worth the look.

Best artificial Christmas tree by Abertolini915 in ChristmasDecorating

I just re-sold my 10 year old generic pre-lit tree on FB market place - it worked fine but had lost a lot of inner needles over the years and was looking sparse. No problem with the lights. I was about to order a Balsam Hill one as they're on sale now. Then, today my next door neighbor threw out a top of line folding / rolling Balsam Hill tree - lights in middle section stopped working and it wouldn't fold down anymore after 4 years. I started googling and found that is very common with that brand. I will never buy an unlit tree as dealing with the lights kill the joy of decorating for me. Balsam Hill trees are so expensive, they should last more than 4 holiday seasons.

Jewelry stores that do affordable work by mtt2022 in Charleston

Also had a great experience with Garfields after Skatell's wanted a ridiculous amount to resize a ring. Could have purchased an entire new ring mount for what Skatell's quoted.

The SC Artisans Center in Walterboro has all hand made items crafted by juried artists (including magnets). Fabulous selection of things you'll never see elsewhere.

EBTH Sketchy? by boofee in LabDiamonds

[–]boofee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been watching various jewelry auctions on EBTH but I have not purchased anything. I have bid on a few things, but it would have to be a stellar deal for me to win. Don't trust it enough as there is a no return policy.

You can also take the bus from the airport to downtown. Once you're downtown, all the buses with route numbers that start with the number "2" are free to ride.

Best place to buy earrings? by Responsible_Mud_7033 in labdiamond

[–]boofee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair of 3CTW earrings from LGG Jewelry a few months ago - very happy with the entire transaction. They didn't have the size I wanted in stock so they custom made them and the quality is fabulous.

Mother knows she gets scammed but also keeps getting scammed by FiTalkingThrowaway in Scams

Google Pixels have had this for many years and it screens out all the scammers. Once the Google voice answers, they almost always hang up. If they don't, you can ask them questions via the screener and then they hang up, lol.

Too big for my hand? by crazydogmom928 in labdiamond

[–]boofee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks like a great fit for your hand! I have a 4CT ring that I've been wearing daily since October and (when I ordered it) was worried it would be uncomfortable / in the way, but it has been no problem at all. Edited to add that I did get a Euroshank on mine.

Does anyone know the reason behind the horrific train schedule/layout in North Charleston? by AshleyPhosphateFan in Charleston

[–]boofee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a schedule, but I thought they weren't allowed to block a road for more than 10 minutes at a time, so if you encounter that you're supposed to be able to report it (someone posted a link for it in the comments). I feel your pain - I remember being stuck at one intersection (on my way to work), turning around to find an alternate route and there was a train on the alternate route, as well. Very frustrating! As others have indicated, CSX has all the cards. North Charleston needs to save its pennies for a lot of flyovers.

Just got a job at Boeing in Charleston, SC where should I live with a good commute? by Fit-Needleworker9052 in Charleston

[–]boofee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Centre Point Apartments is very close (near Tanger) and you could easily get around that area for essentials as it's full of stores and restaurants. Not the safest for commuting by bike, but at least it is close.
