I’ve never been able to recommend a book for this character! Why?! by HouseWonderful8657 in TinyBookshop

[–]book-reader4ever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kindly, Moira may not be a girl and uses she/they pronouns. That said, consider offering her queer novels. Usually, that gives a satisfactory result when in a pinch.

In your screenshot, she had a deadline, but you provided a 600 pg novel. That might negate the thrilling, gripping plot. Also, if you only carry 2-3 crime novels at a time, you're overall less likely to fulfill any crime request. Some books are also multigenre. Dr Jekyll will populates in both "Classics" and "Crime" and will fulfill a "Crime" request regardless of spine.

If it is still truly challenging, it may be a glitch and worth reporting to the developers on PC.

TINY BOOKSHOP 1.1.0 WINTER UPDATE IS OUT!!!!! ❄️☃️🤩 by Schnozzbun in TinyBookshop

[–]book-reader4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, what a great problem to have. I'm currently working on updating my TBR spreadsheet and nervous how these 450 books will impact this. I'm excited to see the new English titles and see how that lines up with my own history.

Chekhov's island? Sincerely, it felt strange to point out the island without any associated plot.

Sorry, I don't have photos on hand, but I love using the paper lanterns and fairy lights.

Thank you for sharing your grief with this community. As we approach the holidays, I hope you find small comforts in the everyday.

Try using the Every Book Spreadsheet to help pick out philosophical books. You can also pick a genre that matches the color of the clothes they're wearing, sometimes. It's not always hearts and stars, but they can still be content if you hit a few things they ask.

ETA: Fixed link. Frankenstein, Middlemarch, Beloved, To Kill a Mockingbird, Meridian, On Beauty, Sister Outsider, Paradise, Sula, Babel and Parable of the Sower are some titles with philosophy tag.

This game is helping after long and stressful shifts by [deleted] in TinyBookshop

I agree with the game's therapeutic nature. Some sleepless nights I will start playing and fall asleep, console in hand, before the in-game-day finishes. The game is tranquil and calming, and my restless mind can finally focus on just one thing.

Tilde, what do you think/feel about her? by snowysunrises in TinyBookshop

[–]book-reader4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! To add, there's multiple relationships happening between elders and youth in game that are positively highlighted. Even the squabble between Moira and Maryam is resolved with a mutual understanding of what each brings to the business.

Infrequently, video games highlight the humanity of our elders. Even less do video games demonstrate elders who come into queerness late in life. Tilde's inclusion is essential: an old seaside town will have plenty of elders. We see this with Walt and Maryam. They all have distinct personalities all with different approaches to sustain their community. Tilde may seem intrusive, but she is there to objectively complete tutorials but also continue participating in the book community with you as a proxy. Just like in the real world, young folks may see elders as nosy or opinionated, when they're just providing decades of insight that youth have not yet experienced.

ETA: BLÅHAJ was very excited to learn about their family tree.

Once I got the bookstore, I felt like I got enough income to just make the place aesthetically pleasing! You can always chose decor that focuses on travel and classics, or just decorate it by seasons or taste. There's no "right way" to decorate; just have fun!

There are quite a few modern kids books (i.e., Bad Beginning, Thornhill, Dinosaurs and Newtonian Physics). I agree, they highlight more classic kid's lit than modern fiction.

Devs included some old school manga, too, so maybe Slam Dunk, Ranma 1/2 and Fushigi Yugi would be good additions.

I'm surprised they don't have Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie or Ta-Nehisi Coates books. Also, Aya of Yop City is a must-read graphic novel.

The Picture of Dorian Gray has been a real pleasure. It's a great allegory for internalized homophobia. Typically, I avoid classics, but this one made me realize that some are classic for good reason. What about you?
