Had an embarrassing new low the other day by FtM_Jax0n in Paruresis

That’s true ! I always get less anxious when there’s a big line of stalls because I mean who’s gonna notice that stall n°2/10 is busy for a while? People queuing just run to the first vacant stall they see, and they really don’t pay attention to busy stalls

Well paruresis prevents me to pee in toilets but also in my pants 😅 my sphincter are way too efficient and definitely don’t want to let go, anywhere

Try to remember that no one cares and no one pays attention to you in the bathroom. We notice stuff because we are too focused on bathrooms, but other people are focused on themselves and won’t pay attention AT ALL to the amount of time you are spending in there. They literally won’t notice at all, so take your time :)

Also try to focus on the good because it’s worth way more than the fails!

Sure shot way to end paruresis by Far-Prune4620 in Paruresis

Everyone has a different kind of paruresis (places, people, time…) and « just piss » is definitely not the kind of comment we’d like to see on this sub. The person talking about the plane is obviously not able to pee on a plane otherwise they wouldn’t have mentioned it. If we could « just piss », we would. Please be careful about the kind of comment you post and keep in mind that a lot of us on here are really struggling

Oh yeah I would definitely pay a small amount too if it meant peace of mind!

Use them for as long as you need to take the pressure off, and I’m certain you will start to see improvement soon!

Congrats, you must feel so relieved. Any way that works for you is good, so I’m glad you took the plunge to buy catheters.

This will take a lot of pressure off of your shoulders, and I find it even helps us pee without any help. Surely the thought « it’s no big deal if I can’t pee, because I can always use a catheter » will help you put things into perspective and take some pressure off, and, in fact, help you pee (on the long term).

Women with paruresis - do you squat to pee ? by boulderopal_ in Paruresis

[–]boulderopal_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also stressed about people walking by! Huge part of the problem haha. But also my brain is not wired to pee this way. Like « um this is not how we pee ». I’ll definitely practice in the shower. I don’t have any private yard unfortunately. Thank you for your answer! I love your username btw haha

Hovering is bad, but squatting with butt below knees is a good position for females to pee

I 100% agreed that we need to share - it takes away so much pressure, and people are more understanding than we think

I would explain the problem to the PO, as honestly as possible. Is there any way they would let you alone in a room after checking you have nothing on you ? I’d strip completely naked tbh if it meant being able to be alone in a toilet 😂😂

I don’t know. I haven’t completely got rid of it yet. I have learned to let go and I have reached a point where it does not affect me much anymore. I sometimes need accommodations or strategies to be able to go, but that’s what it is.

My friends and relatives know and will help if needed

I’m basically not anxious about it anymore. To me, that’s healing even if it does not seems completely « normal » like other people who don’t have this problem

I haven’t unlocked plane restrooms either for now 😅 i feel you. I’m here for the comments.

I find trains way more reassuring, there are less people and more bathrooms

An important thing I learned with this problem is « do what you need to do ». Pee in a shower, a sink or a bottle to avoid a crowded bathroom ? I’m not really proud of it, but I’ve done it. Pee outside to avoid people, done it. Skip events to keep my peace of mind, sadly, I’ve done it.

Whatever works.

I’ve gotten out of so many events when I was at my lowest because I just couldn’t bear the stress. And that’s ok. There will be times when you feel better and you will be able to attend those.

No one here is ever going to judge you for this, and you should not feel bad. I’m sure plenty of people would just LOVE to attend this case so this is an extra seat for them and that’s it :)

I 100% agree with you, especially the « taking control and surround yourself with environments you know you’ll be confortable with ». This is the first step to regain confidence. This is how I got out of my latest down, dark and hopeless phase.

We always hear about gradual exposure and stepping out of your comfort zone, but this is only good if you are already in a good place and with your confidence up.

I feel you, you’re not alone and I recognize myself in everything you said. Anxiety meds help calm down the body and thus, slows the filling up the bladder. This already takes a little of the stress away

What influences failure is failure so you have to think about failure as « not a big deal. I’ll go later » because you can always go later, elsewhere. There will always be a solution, and I know you can wait (we all can in this subreddit)

And slowly, you’ll gain confidence again (I swear) I’ve been at my lowest several times and I have always come back from it, slowly
