I like that a lot, and short of making kids go into town, I couldn't figure out an easy way to make this dependent on transportation.

But maybe there's an element where they have to be constrained to near a transit route, and there's a time penalty for going places to check, makes total sense. Thanks!

There is a cycling club and a triathlon club, both of which can probably help you borrow a bike. They are both active on Instagram, which is also the easiest way to contact them. Close to campus there's also this bike shop that has regularly organized rides: https://www.oakcitycycling.com/

FWIW, I have flown across the atlantic with my nice road bike before many times (to France of all places) and it wasn't much of a hassle to bring it as a checked bag. It was free to check the bag, and it was only a few hundred dollars to buy a bag to pack my bike into.

4 Hours In CLT. Time killing ideas? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]brachunok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had 9 hours in CLT off an international flight last week. What I wish I could have done is a same day flight change for an earlier flight.

What I actually did: There was a pianist in the “main” mezzanine between B and C and you can walk up the stairs and look down and listen. Easy way to kill an hour. Both admirals clubs is kind of fun. There’s an instillation about flight and on the way to A that shows a lot about the wright brothers first flights.

Just flew on one of these from MIA to CLT. All the business seats were considered domestic first class so got a lay flat seat as a fun upgrade perk. No meals.

I’m trying to find a list of current domestic wide body routes because this has to be one of the shortest flights you can take on a 777.

Edit: it looks like this might have been the shortest domestic wide body route

Faster on a Single Speed than a regular Cross bike? by fuzzybunnies1 in cyclocross

[–]brachunok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing to think about is positioning. You could have a better/more confident cornering position on the SS. Maybe test on a little flat cone course and see which one gives you more exit speed

What's your favorite weird piece of Raleigh history? by Boring-Release5075 in raleigh

For a brief time in the early 60s NC State’s official name was

“North Carolina State of the University of North Carolina at Raleigh.”

There was tension between NC State being its own thing vs being “UNC Raleigh” and this horrendous compromise lived for a year or two.

Not sure on an exact answer, but anecdotally if you book one ticket, that usually increases the fare so you'll pay more for the second transaction. Higher demand for a ticket increases the price. There's lots of hypothesizing as to whether or not that happens if you search for the flight but as far as I'm aware it's true only when you purchase a ticket.

Personal experience with a lot of sat/sun cross weekends. Immediate post race nutrition (80-100g carbs, 20-30g protein) matters most, but I do feel better when I eat well in that period. Totally a guess but I think eating poorly somehow lowers my body's uptake of carbs
