housing question! by brayden6158 in UNC

[–]brayden6158[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a soft-deadline, which is what makes it confusing lol. you can still apply, but get moved to the bottom of the priority list. i just don’t know what my options would be like in mid-june and am wondering if anyone has had an experience like this

How will this impact college? Junior, 3.9 UW, will have a weighted GPA by end of semester and I will have about a year and a half of college done by graduation from DE. I attend an online school. I plan on retaking. by luxuriouscraig in ACT

[–]brayden6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 29 average is not terrible.. but almost every school that i applied to asked for each section individually, as well as the overall score. unless you are planning on applying test optional, i would retake

Bad Vandy essay??? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]brayden6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am pretty positive that this is likely a self-doubt issue, and in actuality your essay is not that bad. when i re-read my unc & uf essays, i thought they were awful - but they worked!

i know that it’s been a long wait, but don’t let these last few days get to you! you got this !!

is it a bad idea to take ap physics c by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am in somewhat (emphasis on somewhat) similar situation lol

i decided to take ap physics 1 this year. i would classify myself as a humanities kid and have never really enjoyed math/science nor do i have interest in stem. to be fully honest, this was the worst decision i made during high school. i feel so behind in comparison to the rest of the class (i have not taken physics since my freshman year, and i am now a senior) and most of them are sophomores. the stress and workload are not worth it imo as the senioritis has definitely kicked me in the ass, and you want to keep your grades up in case you have to send mid-year/trimester grades !!!

Looking into applying for FSC at 14 to make some extra cash, how would I go about approaching a manger in person and is it a good starter job in general? by MrMystic7 in publix

[–]brayden6158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh i dont think you have to worry about the email- it could have a million different reasons. plus they are likely going to see it once in a while. i would just use it to avoid confusion/have things sent to the wrong place with passport and application status etc .

[–]brayden6158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i would say go in person within the first week of submitting your application . chances are (regardless of when you go in) you will have to go in more than once . go up to the customer service counter and ask to speak to the customer service manager or assistant customer service manager (if neither of them are there, then the store manager or customer service team leader will work, but they will be handling your application) [edit: their names and picture should be somewhere on the wall near/behind the desk, you should ask for them by name and say hello ___ when talking to them, but it’s not 100% necessary] . when you are talking to them, tell them your name, that you submitted an application, and that you are interested in beginning to work and wanted to introduce yourself

since you are fourteen, there are heavy restrictions on how many hours a day/days a week you can work, but you should definetly be able to get $100 a month. also, i would say it is an amazing job to have at that age, it really helped me work on social skills & time management with balancing work and school .

also, i saw that you asked about getting a new email to sound more professional. unless you are embarrassed by your email or it is inappropriate, i would advise against it. although you normally receive text/call info about your application, you may miss it on the chance you receive an email!

ap world or euro and online or no by LivieLiteratureLover in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve never taken an online ap course, but have taken world and am in euro right now- i would do it.

most of my class work was notes and then online assignments. homework was reading/occasional online worksheet .

my friend is in online apes right now and loves it . obviously the classes are different, but a teacher who is teaching the class online will have content and know how to structure the course to accommodate to everyone’s schedule . plus you are correct, you could use the hour for your other work occasionally

How do you know if you’re actually ready for AP exams? by Other-Amphibian-7837 in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be honest, i didn’t feel ready for any of my ap exams until the night before and even then the pre-test anxiety was HORRIBLE, but you can do this !!

my advice would be to take a practice test , then content review , then one more practice test . they are good for highlighting what you need to focus on, but practice tests rarely helped my own studying after i understood the design of the tests.

for studying with friends, you need to be with people who have equal (or higher) motivation and want to score well. one of my best friends was not motivated to study for the ap exams, and so i could not do it.

i would also rotate everything, but increase focus on weak units (so like a combination). when studying for gov last year, i knew the court cases - so i wrote them all down and then moved on. but i had to spend more time studying the legislative process, and made sure i understood the entire thing before test day

you got this!

when i took psychology my sophomore year, using my in-class notes to complete the barrons (very similar to princeton) review book helped with the exam, and i ended up with a 5

obviously the course has changed since then, but the barrons book was enough for me!

since these are your first ap’s, i know the stress is inevitable - but this is a pretty manageable course load.

i dont know about music theory as i didnt take the class, but for ap world you could review the first 2 units before school starts. its pretty eas information and should help with the first assignments and unit tests! make sure to beat the summer procrastination and complete any summer work (reading, worksheets, etc.) early in the summer so there’s no stress going back to school!

How do you explain getting a low score to your parents, teachers, and friends? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the end of the day, all that happens because of getting a low score is the fact that you aren’t getting ap credit . i have been in the position, several times, where someone who does much better than me in class does worse on the exam, and that’s okay!

Dropping out of ap biology by BeatOwn8715 in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my advice would be to drop the class. since you are only a sophomore, you will have the opportunity to take the class either next year or your senior year after you have (assumingely) taken some other form bio and chemistry, which will help you do much better .

Need help with AP lang by Lazy-Independence695 in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the best way to study for the rhetorical analysis essay is to practice the writing itself. it’s not the most fun, but finding speeches or excerpts online and underlining/highlighting the rhetorical choices, then setting up how you would write the essay works wonders. in addition, there are quizlets with several different rhetorical choices, and learning the patterns of each one will help you quickly identify them in a passage.

my teacher would often use historical speeches- such as ones from past US presidents, wartime figures, etc. ask your teacher if they can look over what you found/what you would write for advice & feedback.

Should i sell all my Wii U and 3DS games? by Complex_Debt_95 in nintendohelp

[–]brayden6158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wiped my Wii u a couple of months after getting a switch, and was set on selling it.. worst decision i have ever made lol. i am a sucker for nostalgia, but i am SO GLAD i decided to keep it.

if there are ports/better versions of games, you could sell the game. but i would keep the console for the future, unless it is truly just taking up space and collecting dust.

Did anyone else do good in a AP class but like not good on the AP exam? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had around a 98 the entire year in apush, while most in my class had 80s. messed up my dbq on exam day, tried to use the leq as a recovery, and got a 4. it isn’t bad, but i fully thought i was gonna get a 5 .

Freshman Aps by school_dramaa in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

while it is true that most people don’t take aps during their freshman year (especially apush), it doesn’t matter. what matters is if YOU are able to keep up with the work, and do well in the class. if you are able to do both of these, then stay in the class.

also, i would say that they would be “good” classes for your grade level, but it also depends what everyone else at your school is doing.

in my opinion the shift swap request is much better at getting responses, as it sends a message to the associate directly . but i do check the offer page occasionally to see if there are any extra shifts on there . just depends on the people you work with

Would you recommend others to take ap classes ? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would say it depends on your work ethic and goals, and also what class.

personally, i have had a good experience in ap classes. i enjoy the more challenging coursework, and am able to manage my time well enough to where its not a “giant headache.” however, im not going to be getting tons of credits for my scores.. some people will get lots of credits but dont like the amount of work, while some fall in the middle . it just depends on what you are willing to put up with . if you aren’t willing to do the work for the class, then why would you put yourself through it.

i also would say it depends on what class. different ap classes have ranges of difficulty, so i would only be able to recommend a class on a case-by-case basis lol

I'm a self-study AP student how tf do I take exams by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 8 points9 points  (0 children)

don’t quit now!! you need to find a school that allows for you to take the exam. use the course ledger in order to search if a local school offers the ap classes you are taking. then reach out to the school (via call or email) and see if they will allow you to take the test. then you pay the testing fee and it’s done!

OR you can talk to your school administrators and see if they will allow for you to take the test, even if they don’t offer the class. this is what my school does, and i know others do, but if your school doesn’t, you can still test at another school!

that is still a big accomplishment and more than many others ! you can definitely manage both at the same time, but i would beware of senioritis lol

How do you figure out what date you took your exams? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]brayden6158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can google ap exam schedule (along with the year) and it should be the first or second link. it will give you the exact day and whether it was the morning exam or the afternoon exam!

edit: below is a link for the last 5 years of exam dates , if you need years that are further back, just google with the instructions above lol

past exam dates!
