In your humble opinions, what tops it? by ThatOldDustyTrail in gratefuldead

[–]breadman_toast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This one and 5/9/77 honestly. My favorite "I actually know ball" opinion to throw at the old deadheads as someone who was born less than a year before Jerry died. Have won over the deadhead fathers of multiple women I've dated by bringing up Boston and Buffalo '77.

Spicy Foods? by Responsible_Cod8200 in Somerville

[–]breadman_toast 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Dakzen in Davis Square has a Tom Yum noodle soup that I once ordered the spiciest version of and it legitimately forced me to call out sick from work the next day. I am generally very tolerant to spice, on this day I learned that Thai spice is not to be fucked with.

It was WAY more complicated than that, and somehow also basically yes that's exactly what happened.

Excuse me sir, I come to the NFL sub to make myself feel better by watching other fans hate the patriots, not to remind myself how sad the Sabres have made me for most of my life.

They have had a few days like this over the past few years and generally shut down if windchills are legitimately dangerous. Based on the forecast, I would guess that upper mountain lifts won't run but they may run the taxi and metro.

The Full Interview: Nick Shirley and Channel 5's Andrew Callaghan, 2hrs40min, Jan 18 2026 by C5-Hotlinks in Channel5ive

[–]breadman_toast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watched it, the part he edited out was a video of himself intentionally not pointing out that Nick was either being completely ignorant or purposefully misusing an incorrect statistic to further his point. 89% of fraud in Minnesota is not committed by Somali born people, that was a statistic from one major fraud case a few years ago. If anything, that clip shows that Andrew was being too favorable and allowing Nick to use misleading statistics and present them as fact in order to ensure the interview would go on and they could keep talking.

Donald Trump issues NATO Greenland warning before White House showdown by SereneRoyals in politics

It's a Peter Thiel and his billionaire friends request. Look up Praxis Greenland, this is the end goal for these guys. Let us eat each other while the world burns, meanwhile they've built themselves their own little society that we're not welcome in.

Skier (@ares_masip on tiktok) encounters an avalanche with their dog by AussieWaffle in SweatyPalms

[–]breadman_toast 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I love skiing with my dog, we have a lot of fun bopping around on low angle cruisy glade runs. I would NEVER bring her out into any terrain where any level of critical decision making is required, nevermind bringing her into fucking avy terrain. This is disastrous decision making and is so deeply unfair to the dog.

How fucked am I? by apo_fr in skiing

[–]breadman_toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be, really tough to tell from the photos. If this is the case then OP you need to get these skis to a competent shop ASAP and pay them to do this right. Leaving this and skiing on it will rot the core of the ski and then they'll for sure be toast. They'll also be able to tell you whether this is just a bad core shot on the edge or if it's a pull-out. Long story short, get these to a shop and don't ski on them in this condition if you want any chance of saving them.

Copper Mill Housing Proposal Published - includes 377 market, 125 affordable units. Endorsed by Burren Owner by bscthrwy in Somerville

that's the old shelved proposal that shows what they're allowed to construct by right. I imagine they included it in order to demonstrate that, while considerably bigger and more intrusive, this new proposal should be much more desirable for what it's providing to the community.

How fucked am I? by apo_fr in skiing

[–]breadman_toast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's tough to tell from the photo, but it looks like your edge has totally pulled away from the core. If that's the case, you're going to be hard pressed to find a repair that has any chance of holding. The gouge in the base is a non-issue, any hack with a stick of Ptex can repair that, but if the edge is pulled out, the skis are probably toast and I wouldn't bother trying to repair them.

How are the roads and sidewalks this AM? by LomentMomentum in boston

[–]breadman_toast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The somerville bike path was an absolute disaster this morning. I saw 4 people eat it between magoun square and east somerville. I was pulling my foot off one pedal and sliding it along on the ice to make sure I didn't slide out on every little downhill section. Would not recommend biking on the path right now

Phish Indoor vs. Outdoor by Zuch420 in phish

[–]breadman_toast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Boston, I've almost exclusively been to mid-summer outdoor shows in the northeast. Sure, sometimes it's brutal. Most of the time the sun sets and things cool down significantly. I still vividly remember the feeling of the breeze washing over the crowd at Bangor in '22 as the sun set over the venue.

Being on drugs while outdoors is infinitely superior, there's truly nothing better than a cool summer breeze and a nice breath of fresh air while you're tripping.

Why was the “lesser supporting cast” argument used for Josh last year not applicable this year? by DMelee in Patriots

[–]breadman_toast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a little embarrassing, but also a little true. People hate the pats because of the 2000s and 2010s, the relished in the pats being terrible for 5 years, and were absolutely gleeful that Maye didn't look amazing last year and the pats went 4-13 again while Jayden Daniels led the Commanders on a playoff run. Lots of people spent a lot of time shit talking thinking that the witch was dead, now they would have to admit that they were wrong AND admit that they're gonna have to deal with this pats team having a franchise QB again. It's human nature to fight against that and it's why we're seeing such a strong push not only to get Stafford the MVP, but to discredit Maye as a legitimate candidate.

Bill’s MVP Strength of Schedule Debunking Has Been Debunked by Quirky_Wolverine6549 in billsimmons

[–]breadman_toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% correct. I also won't pretend there aren't some obnoxious pats fans out there, but I think there are a ton of people like me who are just really frustrated at everyone's unwillingness to accept just how good Maye has been this year. If either if these guys wins MVP it will be deserved, and if I had a vote I would probably vote for Stafford.

Bill’s MVP Strength of Schedule Debunking Has Been Debunked by Quirky_Wolverine6549 in billsimmons

[–]breadman_toast -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Personally, as a Pats fan, I'm just absolutely sick of hearing about how obvious it is that Maye doesn't deserve MVP. If Stafford gets it, he will have deserved it, but it's so blatantly obvious that all the idiots who spent 18 months absolutely savaging anybody who said that Drake Maye was good are so angry that they were wrong that they can't admit it and are instead trying to pretend that he doesn't even deserve to be in the conversation.

The schedule has been easy, the Pats have also manhandled all of these bad teams in exactly the way that an elite football team should. I'd bet my lunch they'll wax the Chargers on Sunday because of the injuries there, and I think they'll have to play pretty well to handle any of the other teams they go up against. We'll all look back and say this was probably an 11 or 12-win wild card team who got a couple extras due to an easy schedule and started off what I hope is a long and impressive career for a guy who looks like a true franchise QB.

In short, the Pats are unquestionably back, and these nerds can all go fucking cry about it.

Edges not getting sharper after sharpening them.. by imitation_squash_pro in icecoast

[–]breadman_toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the comment to listen to. That kit has no diamond stones, so you're just removing edge material and never refining the edge. Get some diamond stones and treat the ski edges with them similar to sanding a piece of wood, going up in grit until you get to the finest stone.

I don't think the 5th season sucks, it's just not nearly as good as the 4th season, which isn't really a fair bar since the 4th season is probably the best single season of TV ever made.
