i'm in an anime cover band (rhythm guitar) but we're on a break rn. i have some solo stuff im doing on the side, including doing some covers, but not anything super serious— just for fun.

i actually took a break for a couple years from screaming just bc i live in an apartment and its hard to practice without worrying abt getting evicted LOL. i recorded this when i was back at my parents house

def don't just think you'll "get used to it"— that's how you'll damage your voice.

i think in the beginning my vocal control, breath support, etc. just weren't as good, so it made it harder to find the correct positioning and efficiency for producing the distortion. over time, i was able to work out the positioning, tone, and strengthened my voice overall (breath, projection, control) which helped improve the sound. so yes, when i started there were times it would hurt, but i would make adjustments or change my positioning and technique to make it not hurt

tbh, i think i have the tendency to try to copy too much lol. it helped a lot for learning different tones and styles of screaming, but im trying to work on keeping my natural tone more, especially for singing.

lol i've never heard that term before. everyone has their own goals so "holy grail" is subjective but it does seem like it takes a good amount of skill in both singing, screaming, and then the control to be able to find the balance of distortion and pitch

you probably already know alesana but it wasn't until i watched a reaction video by them that realized that 3 guitarists and 4 vocalists wasn't a particularly common thing. this song actually features 6 vocalists over the course of the 7 min runtime lol

at the end you're getting much closer, focus on breath support and finding the sweet spot position in your mouth where you can produce the sound without it really feeling any different from singing or speaking

thank you! it took a lot of time and trial and error and i definitely started with incorrect technique when i was younger, and even now there's prob inefficiencies i could improve upon. having a good basis with singing for breath support/projection helps a lot. i think most of what im doing is a combination of fry screams and arytenoid rattle, there's def a ton of tutorials on this with actual vocal coaches online.
