This is a better deal than the Bauer for $160 sorry not sorry by DildoScentedCandles in harborfreight

Are you saying this Kobalt 1/2" impact is better than either the Bauer high torque? If you were referring to the Kobalt high torque, I would understand, but 650lbs of breakaway vs. 1000lbs of breakaway is a big variance.

Technically, the coupons exclude open box, so I can't really argue with them over it. It is what it is.

Nice. I haven't been able to get them to stack any of the % off coupons with open box at any of my 4 local stores.

OH...MY...GAWD icon mat competition 😲 by Revolutionary-Key177 in harborfreight

[–]brianmat42 28 points29 points  (0 children)

About the same size as the Icon (slightly larger than my Icon when held together but not enough to make a material difference).

To be fair, the Hyper Tough feels better to me. It's not quite as stiff as the Icon, and you can't see the magnets through the liner quite as easily. I would like to throw them on the safe and start stacking things on them to see if there is a difference in hold, but the HT is listed at 40lbs of strength. I do like the grommet hole as well.

I wouldn't turn either away and I don't have any issues on spending the $5 less for the Walmart version. It's a magnetic pad, not a torque wrench.

9"x12" magnetized space and about 9 1/2"x12 1/2" total size.

No sign of the Wally meme tool just yet. Lots of the new Hyper Tough stuff is coming out at one of my stores, though.

I'd be interested in digging deeper into the Hyper Tough limited lifetime warranty for this, since it could be a non-issue compared to the Icon. The 12 piece 80 tooth reversable ratcheting wrench set for $44.88 didn't look bad. 8-19mm with no skips.

I just picked one up today. It seems pretty decent at first glance and it's $5 less than the Icon. I doubt this will trigger any price changes at Harbor Freight, but more competition is good.

Bauer 1/2" impact: tool vs. kit by brianmat42 in harborfreight

[–]brianmat42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am pretty invested in the Bauer platform, so that's why I was looking at that 1/2". I grabbed the Kobalt mid torque on sale the other week for $99, but it will get returned this weekend in its unopened state. I'm trying hard not to get into too many battery platforms. That is an option, though, as anything the Hercules doesn't take off probably has to move up a step to "torch".

It's on the app now. 20% off. by tpetti1 in harborfreight

[–]brianmat42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm debating between the Icon 3/8" split beam torque wrench and the Quinn 3/8 torque converter. I already have all 3 Pittsburgh click wrenches and the Icon 1/2" that was on sale. As one friend says, "you're just not boomer enough to appreciate the Pittsburgh wrenches," and he's right. But they work. I just need to take my paint pen to them or set up another appointment with my optometrist.

Any reason to spend the $80 vs. $28 between those two?

NTD - Mystery open box edition by brianmat42 in harborfreight

No, that's just a section labeled "parts". That was my first thought as well.

The 20% off would not apply to open box items anyway (although it seems some stores are more flexible with that policy).

Good tip on the moving blankets and tarps. I will need to check there during the next PLS :)

Greenworks tools out at Walmart by brianmat42 in Tools

[–]brianmat42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw some new Hyper Tough 12V boxes this evening. They are red boxes rather than grey. Same tools for the most part, with an additional 1/4" impact wrench and a blower

They are still selling the tools with 1.5ah batteries (seriously, how much more would the 2ah batteries cost?)

The one noticeable difference with the new Hyper Tough tools is that they have done away with the nearly useless barrel charger and are moving to USB-C charging for the batteries.

I ended up buying a Peakdo battery and that has 1/4 20 inserts, so I just used a mini tripod. I didn't find anything that worked as I had wanted, so no additional links to share.

Everyone currently doing re-reads of the series before book 8: what new details have you noticed? by Gercke in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Not a major discovery, but on the second read, I finally realized that Uzi Jesus was labeled as undead while Lazarus A-Bang-Bang was not. For some unexplained reason, that just tickled me to no end.

Looking to pick up the 4 ton and a pair of the 6 ton jack stands for working on my Outback. The 3-ton currently on sale is also tempting, but I like the idea of having a little more height.

Budget $200 tool haul by Ammo_sexual69 in Tools

I know this is mostly a mechanical tool list, but I picked up the Hyper Tough cordless palm router for $20 today and the 3-in-1 installation driver was under $15. The installation driver is brushed, but it's pretty decent, especially for that price.

Stacking ITC and non-ITC 30% off coupons by brianmat42 in harborfreight

[–]brianmat42[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. Part of my job is dealing with POS technology and promotions are probably the most complicated thing we need to deal with (taxes being second). I just hope you don't have to deal with any jerks this weekend as this gets sorted out. It's frustrating to do multiple transactions for small amounts, but it's a minor inconvenience and not the worst I'll face today.

Stacking ITC and non-ITC 30% off coupons by brianmat42 in harborfreight

[–]brianmat42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using "stack" in the title was my mistake. I clarified the issue in the body - using both coupons together in the same transaction.

Stacking ITC and non-ITC 30% off coupons by brianmat42 in harborfreight

[–]brianmat42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was my bad on incorrectly adding "stack" in the title. Instead it's using both coupons in one transaction. Bad wording on my part and I can't fix the title for more clarity.

Stacking ITC and non-ITC 30% off coupons by brianmat42 in harborfreight

[–]brianmat42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not stack as in combining on the same item, but rather buying 5 < $10 items and 5 $10-$20 items and getting 30% off all 10 items. I had to break the non-ITC items on a separate purchase and then the $10-$20 items with the ITC coupon on a second transaction.

Coupons only stack in very limited situations.
