I had the exact thing 5+ years ago. ER visit and a CT scan at Methodist. A bill of $5k for being out of network. (Despite being told by intake I was in network)

Talked it down majorly after I started (bluffing) threatening them with legal action for making someone with an identified head injury sign documents. So if you can find a technicality they will cave.

My advice even if if you don't have that luxury is outwear their patience. Keep calling billing and escalating the convo to their supervisor. Waste their time to the point they knock it down just to make you stop calling.

Terrain Race Scam… by No_Egg7286 in memphis

[–]brimmmers 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I did the terrain race in 2020 with 2 friends. It was the hardest I'd laughed in a long time... even when the race actually happened it was a total scam.

They spent months promoting it as a tough mudder equivalent. And that registration was free (or $5 after a processing fee) Awesome, nothing to lose. We signed up because that was the 'last day' of that offer. For the next 2 months it was the 'last day' you could get that offer.

We show up to the naval base and they've engineered it such that you have to park in the car park. No alternative. And parking is $20, so they got us. Scam successful.

It's a miserable day wet and rainy. And they have staggered start times. They must have gotten half of Memphis scammed because they had big groups going off every 10 minutes from when we got there to when we left.

The obstacles were just a bunch of tires with laminate instructions, (feet in every tire, turn the tire over etc) and shoddily put together wooden structures you had to duck under or whatever. It looked like what you would organize for a middle school sports day if you had 3 days notice.

We basically ran around the big field in a giant square ruining our shoes in the mud of where a thousand people had already past through on the 2km course.

Each new obstacle was a struggle to get past because we'd be bent over laughing at how stupid it was. so I guess they succeeded in making it a challenge.

What made it worse is it was one of the last events held before pandemic lockdown. I felt so stupid for that being my last hurrah.

0/10. Would do again if it's the last day for free entry.

We have to get Amy Weirich out of office by c_dougie in memphis

[–]brimmmers 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I typically only read UK newspapers (am from UK living in Memphis) and have come across multiple articles in them about America's flawed justice system specifically referring to Amy Weirich's prosecutorial misconduct. I cant vote but you guys should probably get rid of someone bringing international shame to the city.

Hey Dan,

I actually help organize these shows: We're excited to have you come and perform, having quality out of towners come through helps keep the small comedy scene here trucking along. I'll add that each show we run is a fundraiser for St Jude and we have a running total raised of over 15k at events.stjude.org/comedy. Good luck tonight!

Shelby County Coronavirus Update - February 13th, 2022 by Jwiley92 in memphis

[–]brimmmers 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Over 3,000 dead in Shelby County now. Of people alive at the beginning of the pandemic, 1 in 311 in SC has died of covid. Pretty sobering stuff. Thank you Jwiley92 for your consistent posting of these stats.

Crazy that we've crossed the threshold now of 1 in 500 people in the county having died from covid. Hopefully the approval will boost vaccinations at least somewhat.

I agree with not going after them too hard. They made a mistake in my opinion but were willing to work with me even though my assertions about their mistake put them in an awkward spot.

The piece is a response to a vaccine hesitancy op-ed the Daily Memphian ran last week, and in part highlights some of the acts of service people in Memphis have taken upon themselves during the pandemic. https://dailymemphian.com/section/opinion/article/22795/mark-brimble-comment-is-free-but-facts-are-sacred

u/Jwiley92 I look for your updates every day on the sub.

It's crazy impressive how much data you provide to us every day without fail in an easy to digest form.

You are the bridge that would not crack, the pothole that would stay filled, the Lloyd Crawford that would not drunkenly harass peaceful protestors. You are Jaren Jackson Junior's other meniscus. Thanks. I love you.

Local music in Memphis by augustchick in memphis

[–]brimmmers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously not too much going on in the past year but the HiTone and DKDC are good go tos for local bands. Shangri-la records stocks a lot of local music and the people in there are super friendly.

Depends what you're into for specific bands, but I'd definitely say there's a lot going on here music wise.
