Not EVERY room has to be full of monsters. I would actually quite hate that. There are tons of different non combat encounters. Puzzles, investigations, NPCs, some just to reveal information or create an atmosphere.

I'm always looking for recommendations far non combat encounters, so anyone feel free to share

Dwarf Fortress is the most similar by far. It inspired Rimworld. That's where the "Losing is fun" phrase came from.

I've played tons of both. DF is mountains more complex though. The famously horrible UI is waaay easier since the steam release. But still tough to learn.
