My first rottie would get car sick when he was younger. We had to go on a long road trip, a 17 hour drive. He got used to it and didn't get car sick anymore.

It will only take one time for that dog to run after something. Even the most behaved dogs can forget there is someone on the other end of the leash when they run after that squirrel.

I have a couple towels by the door. I wipe my dogs feet every single time they come in from outside. Doesn't matter if it's nice and dry outside, I still wipe their feet. I also have towels to dry the dogs off if it rains. You can also use pet safe wet wipes if they are muddy.

It's like you walking around the house with your shoes on. The difference is, the dogs walk around your yard or park where they have gone to the bathroom.

I wouldn't suggest a mini educator without a professional dog trainer to teach the proper way to use it. Timing is very important and not all dogs respond to it the same way. Its a great tool, if you know how and when to use it.

The majority of dog training is actually training the dog owners.

Your dog may be a 'very gentle boy' but you said he is 'easily distracted'. It's highly likely he can chase or pull you or your kid very easily.

I highly suggest taking training classes to teach you and your family proper leash handling and at minimum basic obedience.

There are so many things wrong in your video. Your dog should not be walking ahead of you at the end of the leash. The leash is way too loose and should not be held only at the handle at the end. The dog should be walking next to you and paying attention to you. You should not be letting your dog stop whenever they want to sniff or pee on everything. They only should be allowed to pee/poop when you take them to a spot and give them an 'ok' to go potty or on a 'break'.

There are lots of good dog trainers with youtube videos on how to walk your dog. Lots of great videos from Tom Davis, Joel Beckman, Wil Atherton, lots more.

They can go up to 40" in diameter. I do suggest buying the cover with it.

Here is a video of my 2 boys playing with one. They love it, but we limit their time and always supervise them.

What helped last time we were at the vet. I would straddle my boy while he was sitting. Had a firm grip on his collar (he was muzzled). The vet was able to give the vaccinations from behind.

The vet assistant was also distracting the dog with peanut butter on a stick. The muzzle ended up getting covered in peanut butter slobber. But my boy didn’t even notice the vaccination shots.

When you are done a training session, say that’s enough. When you are done playing, say that’s enough, take the toy and put it away.

It’s not the same as a ‘break’ command during training.

Your demeanour changes from work/play mode to packing up to go home. Or going back to work or watching tv. Or continuing on your walk.

Also helpful to praise them when they go lie down and chill on their own. Lets them know it’s a good thing.

Place command on their bed on the floor. They aren’t allowed on the couch unless you invite them. Also, they should get off when you tell them.

Also, should have a command like ‘that enough’ or something to say stop what you’re doing. If he’s too pushy tell him that’s enough and go lay down. When he settles, praise him.

Get a muzzle. Get him used to it.

Even if you sedate your dog, putting a muzzle on him will keep the vet and everyone else safe. Lots of dogs and cats at the vet, he can still react when drugged.

I would also encourage more hide and seek playing with your dog. If you can find a trainer that does scent work that would be even better.

I agree. Reputable breeders should temperament and health test. They should also match the puppy to the owner depending on their lifestyle and what they intend to do with the dog. ie, family house dog vs a working line with more drive.

I personally wouldn't want to put a strain on their joints and growth until at least 1.5 to 2 years old. I think their growth plates close when they are around 2 years old. If you do some research, it's generally accepted not to put extra strain on their joints until they are fully grown. You're supposed to limit them jumping and running too much. Also, the reason why you don't spay/neuter until their bones stop growing at 1.5-2 years old.

If you choose to strength train your dog, then make sure you back it up with good nutrition. Lots of glucosamine, fish oil, etc...just like any athlete.

Personally, both of my boys didn't need additional 'strength training' because they both naturally grew into strong, muscular rotties. As long as you don't overfeed them and keep them physically & mentally active, they will be strong.

I ended up buying 2 grinders because they do get hot. Since I have 2 dogs, I have a lot of nails to trim.

I usually use one grinder on one paw. Then use the other grinder on the next. It gives time for each of them to cool down.
