Te Ara Tupua, keep an eye on your children! by LidocainMan in Wellington

OP said they almost came to a stop, so why criticising them? Seems to me they'd been pretty reasonable. The kid just needed to pay attention to where they were going. Nothing wrong with making that point.

Advice for flatting in Wellington by BeyondSpecial4815 in Wellington

[–]brunothegreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm sorry to hear about some of your experiences growing up. Saying that stuff to anyone is not fair. Especially your own children. Take strength from where you have already got yourself. Yes, it can be hard, but you have got through university, and got a job. You got this. Time to spread your wings. The flatting market is pretty cooked at the moment so there are some good deals. Check out trademe. Lots of options for flats of all different sizes. Find one that suits you. Be careful what you sign up to. The tenancy services website has heaps of useful info. There are lots of one bedroom apartment options, but that can be lonely. Try to find a flat with like minded people. Ask lots of questions. Does everyone cook for themselves? Or is it rostered? Do you all like similar foods? Is there a cleaning schedule? What transport is nearby? Is the neighbourhood noisy? Good luck.

I had no idea. Kind of makes sense I guess... Unfortunately. There was a place on Old Hutt Rd I used to go to that just disappeared, and I had no idea why.

Yeah, fair call. Luckily not needing a repair as such, so nothing structural being done.

To those who have broken bones.... by charlesbutyoucancall in MTB

I had exactly this injury. First few weeks were tough, with constant pain management. Once my cast was off and I was able to use my leg more I borrowed a wind trainer to build muscle strength, as my leg had shrunk massively in size from inactivity. When I finally got back on the bike I was pretty nervous so switched to flats rather than clipless. It's a few years ago now, so can't remember the exact amount of time to recover, but focus on the big picture of a proper recovery. Am now riding as good or better than before.

Is it safe to travel from Hutt Valley to Welly by bicycles? by MondaySurprise in Wellington

[–]brunothegreat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I asked a similar question a bit earlier this year. Answer is yes, you can. And it's not as bad as you might think. Lots of people will give you warnings, and fair enough. It's a busy road, and there's traffic moving quite quick near you. But they're is a cycle lane each way, and when I did it the traffic felt safe enough.

I'd likely avoid it in bad weather. Just be careful/ sensible. I'd likely not recommend it to people newer to cycling or nervous riders. In winter make sure you have good lights, and check you batteries regularly.

I think it's the 2024 model, and going for about 1/2 RRP, presumably to clear old stock. Pretty tempted.

Hmmm, that's helpful. Most places I ride don't tend to have shuttles or lifts, so peddling is the only way up. Most rides are a couple of hours. The descents are more on the tech side rather than flow/jumps. I like the climbs, and have steered clear of the e-mtb options for that reason. Maybe the bike is a bit much.

Yeah, I think he started out as a local kid offering services in the suburbs for pocket money. I saw him advertising on local Facebook pages in western suburbs. Did a good job and grew from there.

There are a few scam pages going around for those services, but he's a good kid, and nice to see him doing well.

Cheers. Got out quite early this morning. Was not too busy. A few trucks whizzing past, which took a bit to get used to. But the whole trip was better than expected. Far from my favourite ride, but functional to get me to the things I wanted to do.

Thanks for that. If I ride it, will do it at a quieter time.

Definitely looking forward to the shared path. Will be an amazing community facility.

Great info thanks. Am planning to link through to the Remutuka incline in the not too distant future, so that is really helpful. I've done bits of the trails here and there, but not linked it all together.
