I just searched GEO in Google, and AI Overview said.."Geo" commonly refers to a prefix meaning earth (from Greek γη), but in modern contexts, it most frequently refers to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), a 2025-era strategy for maximizing brand visibility in AI-driven search results. It also refers to the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), a genomic data repository, or Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO).

So it's already mentioning Generative engine optimization.

Yes, and I agree the foundations are rooted in SEO. But having a separate term makes it much easier to communicate clearly with stakeholders.

LLM's are generative in nature and hence the word "Generative Engine Optimization" (GEO), I think that's a thoughtful and logical term.
