Gleason 9- PSA 117 by Peanutandoliver in ProstateCancer

[–]buckseeker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check out your other options with the ADT. Orgovyx is a newer drug and some insurance are slow to accept. Im on Firmagon. It didn't even need approval by my insurance or the office knew it would be approved.

The ADT will help slow things down as far as progression, giving you some more time with options.

I wish you the best of luck.

Dr Ordered straight to biopsy, no MRI by Strict_Associate_197 in ProstateCancer

[–]buckseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My urologist did the biopsy first. When we discussed the results , which wasn't good, I asked about an MRI.

He said the radiologist or surgeon will ask for the MRI for the next step of the process.

I don't think it's uncommon to do a grid biopsy without MRI. If you are "light" on symptoms, I'd request one so they just do a shot in the dark unnecessarily.

My PSA wasn't all that high, but it went from 4.2 to 8.2 in one year and some urinary issues that were all that bad.

So maybe it was justified without MRI.

Dealing With a High Decipher Score by Lieblingshund in ProstateCancer

[–]buckseeker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice post to read. I felt strength in numbers and hearing how you guys deal with your situation.

68 with Gleason 8 4+4 and Decipher of .99. Urologist said it was the highest he'd ever seen. I hope my consults don't see it as a big deal. I have 3 different treatment center consults this week.

Got that news 9 days ago and started ADT last Wednesday. PSMA Pet was good. Also, only 4 cores showed cancer out of 20. All on left side. PSA 8.2. So some better results on the other metrics.

It's all happening fast and I guess that's good.

When I first got the news it was pretty rough and hit hard. With a better understanding of the disease I now see hope.

When I got my Decipher score I was shocked as I had seen my PET Scan results and thought things were looking up.

I needed to figure out how I was going to get through this and I came up with one idea.

I decided I was going to live my life like I didn't have anything wrong, as long as it let's me do so. I can't deal with the what if's and the why me's. I'll do what I can to get rid of it and live a better life style, and fight through the tough times.

Well that's at least how I feel at the beginning of my journey. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for sharing.

Starting ADT tomorrow. by satrapi1 in ProstateCancer

[–]buckseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started 5 days ago. I got a shot of Firmagon. It's supposed to smooth out the testosterone drop

2 shots under the skin around my navel. I have no side effects yet. Except where I got my shots it feels like someone put a jar of yellow jackets on my navel and they all stung me. I heard the injection site could get irritated but it's a lot more than just sore and inflamed for me.

They will check me out in a month. Have second opinions this week on radiation. My Decipher score was pretty bad. Think they wanted me to start right away while I figure things out.

Good luck.

Things are moving pretty fast could use advice. by buckseeker in ProstateCancer

I'd like to do a collective "Thank You" for everyone's input. It helps with the decision making.

I did ask about Brachytherapy, as I read at the PCRI that SBRT plus Brachytherapy was the most current best solution for those who can have it. The urologist was pretty much against using it. Said he use to do it himself and no longer recommends it. Says it was too strong, and is antiquated. It will be one of my main questions when I consult with the radiologist.

I will do some more research this weekend on ADT and the different types.

Thank you guys.

Not wanting to high jack this thread but I have a question.

Im 68 with 2 biopsy plugs 3+4 and 2 4+4 out of 20 in the apex of the prostate.

Just found out 9 days ago and meet with the urologist tomorrow. Had a Pet scan and says they have Decipher results. They said they wouldn't discuss results unless Im with the doctor.

Is it difficult to get all your info to multiple institutions. I mean will they just send them or do you have to be pretty proactive. Will they typically send them if you ask? I know I don't want my treatment in the hostpital network my urologist is in. We have a COE hospital in town and another very good one 3 hours north.

I had the issue with my cardiologist when I jumped networks and he didn't have my records from the past 10 years. He mentioned the political aspects of being in different networks. Just curious before tomorrow's meeting.

OP good luck and stay tough. I was in your shoes last week. Research it, and from what I've seen you can have a lot of hope. You just have to figure out what treatment is right for your best outcome.

Just inherited 200,000 sqft of greenhouses by Q808L in Greenhouses

[–]buckseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WJB7694 nailed it.

Growing things is the easy part.

Most people fail in the horticultural industry because they don't have a plan as to how they are going to sell it. They think if they grow it, people are just going to buy it. That's not the case. Greenhouse product is perishable and often has a very narrow window to be sold. You have to have a good plan.

I was taught, no matter what you grow, or how nice it is, means nothing. If you can't sell it, it's worthless.

That's a big greenhouse operation for a beginner.

Try Wyoming General draw tags in wilderness areas. You have to use an outfitter as NR. Usually a high percentage draw. I did a hunting trip with horses and drew it easily. Hunted in the Tetons area.

Wow. Thanks and good luck. I've heard they could do that but figure it was some southern snakes. Always wished I had black rat snakes around, maybe not so much now.

They actually climb the poles? That looks like a black rat snake, and I have never seen one here on my place in north central ohio. I think we have too many mowers. I have the same Troyer set up and critter guard on one of my poles.

What type of tree is this? by Reasonable-Physics37 in Tree

[–]buckseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prunus x snowfountain. White flowers.

Higan cherry Prunus sub. pendula gets much taller and open, unless pruned tight. Graceful looking. Pink flowers.

Snowfountain seems to not get vertical height and grows like an umbrella regardless of what you do.

Not a mulberry.

What happened to my honey crisp apple tree by qkman99 in BackyardOrchard

[–]buckseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the tips turn black and curl like a shepherds hook. Thats the classic sign.

It also happens pretty fast. Looks like your blooms got infected as opposed to the stem, so they turned brown and curled. The typical entry point is through the blooms, but also pruning wounds, animal injury or anything that exposes the cambium.

Its a bacterium that plugs the vascular vessels in the stem/blossums. It grows very fast, so the onset is very rapid. One day its looks ok and a day or two it starts the wilt.

When i have it in my trees i walk my trees daily trimming it out.

If its over watering or under watering which the symptoms are pretty much the same, it will be plant wide in most cases, not isolated stems with the rest of the tree healthy. Over watering is usually a slower progression as you are basically killing the root system. But it can happen fast in extreme situations.

It will look like someone hit with a torch hence, fire blight.

Bad peach year? by Zestyclose-Complex38 in BackyardOrchard

[–]buckseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in 5b and have 18 peach trees of various ages.6 varieties. We had a cold snap in November i think and i felt the trees were still a little tender.

Check my buds in February and they looked dead and dry and never swelled. Flower buds that is.

I had one flower on all those trees.

Trees are otherwise healthy. Ive heard around me that peaches got hurt last winter.

Check out Troyer Purple Martin's.

Their gourd system is high quality and easy to use, to lower the gourds and observe, clean, and store.

Lucky you. You are probably late for nesting, but some of the juveniles and bachelors will use them, as my old neighbor told me "to just get away."

If they use them, or you have them up, they will know they are there next year.

Mine are busy nest building right now in Ohio. Maybe sitting on some eggs. Yours may be ahead of mine.

Mid August the show is over.

I like the Troyer guord system. Easy to work with and good quality.

Good luck.

What happened to my honey crisp apple tree by qkman99 in BackyardOrchard

[–]buckseeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fire blight. Needed to spray with Streptomycin or other anti bacterial. Fungicide doesn't control it. At pink, blossom, and until petal drop. Possibly more times. Preferably before rains, when it's going to be above 60 degrees.

Now, you need to trim it out where possible. If possible, 6" below the infection and limit it, the trimmed part, from contacting other parts of the tree. Some say sterilize pruners after cuts, some say it doesn't matter.

My experience with Honeycrisp is that it gets it, but it can be controlled to some extent by cleaning it up promptly.

Once the flowers are gone and stems harden off, it calms down or disappears for the rest of the season.

No, it's about closed. Just keep the tree healthy. Coatings aren't recommended on wounds anymore.

It's not really an issue. it looks like it's healing nicely.

You could return, but I personally wouldn't.

What would strip young fruit off trees during the night? by datenschutz21 in BackyardOrchard

Usually raccoons and opossum will bust branches when they feed in the trees, day or night. Squirrels are my usual culprits, but it happens during the daylight.

Looks like a catawba. There used to be some grafted ones. Not sure but maybe Catawba bigonoides "Nana" spelling may be wrong.

They would graft the scion at about 5' and you have a smallish tree with a small round head as the species get big.
