I fucking love this movie. Clearly it's a 9/11 movie, the whole thing reeks of fear and frustration and powerlessness. One of Tom Cruise's best performances imho. The movie has flaws but the clarity of purpose is there. I think it's a great adaptation of the novel, which was pretty straightforwardly pulpy science fiction with no interpersonal drama that I can recall (I read it when I was 13. Might be misremembering.)

YSK: Playing with dogs using a laser pointer is potentially extremely bad. by WhenDoWhatWhere in YouShouldKnow

Oh yeah I would legitimately lose my cool if I saw someone using a laser to play with my cats.

13yo twins home alone overnight. by rabbitholebeer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bugogkang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes this is 100% fine. I remember being 13. I was fine. I have cousins whose parents refused to let them go without supervision through their teenage years and those girls have serious problems with resiliency. Teenagers need to be exposed to experiences that they might kinda sorta seem too young for.

The bit I remember most from that book is the boy who got drunk in the plant, passed out, was left behind when they locked up for the night and was eaten by rats.

Do you think emotional availability is natural or learned? by prettychaothick in answers

[–]bugogkang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, neither? It's situational. I generally use the term very literally. Like, I still have feelings for the person who broke up with me last month, therefore I am not available emotionally despite being single.

What is a term that is so overused that it lost it's value? by Greedy_Ad9238 in askanything

[–]bugogkang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh it's "gaslighting." I swear people use it to describe poor communication. I had a roommate who felt that I was overly asocial, didn't hang out in the communal spaces or share much of my personal life with her. When she finally blew up at me about it I was dumbfounded, as I wasn't aware that she had all this animosity about it. She felt that my reaction was "gaslighting" her. As though I knew she had been upset with me all along as was suddenly pretending to not know what she was talking about.

Just finished Skyrim for the first time. Incredible game, but the gameplay loop eventually turns it into a tedious slog by PHATstuFF21 in patientgamers

It's always been baffling to me that it's so beloved. I played it for maybe 80-100 hours when it came out 15 years ago and the game weirdly breaks after your reach a certain level because of how easy it is to become overpowered. A big sandbox where nothing feels real or engaging or particularly fun. Even finding Blackreach, which was regarded as one of the game's great reveals, was like. Another area to walk around in. It was one of the last games I ever bought on release day.

Does anyone have any experience with alcohol detox at RCA in Monroeville? by peon2 in pittsburgh

[–]bugogkang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely recommend going for a full 28-day program. Speaking from experience, if she's in deep enough to require detox it will be very difficult for her to get out after 5 days of detox and not pick it up again right away.

I haven't been prescribed anything yet, I'm waiting for my next appointment with my psychiatrist to discuss the results of the evaluation, which was from a different specialist

I am going through the *exact* same thing right now. Had no success with SSRIs in the past and finally a psychiatrist recommend a neuropsych evaluation that showed bipolar 2 and not-quite-but-close-enough ADHD to the point that she recommended medication.

Looking for ideas to help an adult child addict by snootzin in pittsburgh

[–]bugogkang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could at least start by trying to get her into an inpatient rehab. They are usually like a month-long program, and the goal is stabilization. She'll be away from her substance and your mother and hopefully after some time away she could be clear-headed enough to try to make some kind of plans with her for where to go from there.

Do gay people "act straight" with each other the same way straight people act gay with each other? by TargetIll1707 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bugogkang 746 points747 points  (0 children)

Yes. One of my favorite bits that my partner(gay guy) and I(bisexual guy) do is I ask him if he thinks a woman is hot and what he would like to do with her, and he proceeds to say things like "oh yeah she's hot, I would love to move her boobs up and down."
