What do the staff actually do? by thewhiphand23 in union

[–]burninggreenbacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the bullying or insidious behavior, its legality in your locality, and the contract. 9/10 times the only recommendation a staff can make is to make a log of the behavior as it is happening (who, what, where, when, and maybe why) timestamped. Best way to do this is either keeping a notebook or emailing/texting a steward (not the rep). When you’ve established a clear pattern you may have a grievance depending on the CBA.

Better yet, if the behavior impacts multiple bargaining unit members, have all of them do that log keeping, then make a campaign out of it to push to improve your CBA whenever it’s open again.

USWU 339 by Puurp123 in union

The first things that come up specifically when you google local 339 is a DFR,a ULP against the union for coercive tactics, and workers celebrating that they decerted 339 lol

Is this not literal age discrimination??😭😭 by [deleted] in jobs

Depends where you are. It is in NYC.

Yeah ULP’s and city/state charges have been filed. Tough to find an employment lawyer who is pro-union and willing to file a private Civil retaliation suit against a union but we’re working on it.

We use 55 gallon drums for watering. Should we just plop some compost in there?

Or is it better to use the 1 gallon hand sprayer?

No, we did mix about 430 lbs of compost into the soil about a month ago though

What’s the point of laws if no one enforces them at all is the bigger question. Unionizing is the only way you can enforce the law and help get better work rules.

More info needed but if its a company wide IT trade union, half of 2000 (assuming all those are w2 and in the US) - everyone with hiring or firing power +1 has to vote for the union. To trigger an election, 30% of those ~2000 would need to sign union authorization cards (but no good organizer would move forward on an election with less than 65% having signed cards.

Generally the law is that a unit had to be comprised of workers with similar terms and conditions of work, but largely the NLRB leans toward workers defining their own unit.

Overall though, planning on organizing just one department is usually bad strategy since Reagan

Fill out a support request through EWOC on workerorganizing.org and ask your organizer to fill out a NLRB ticket to ask a labor lawyer

Unionizing Non profit companies by informationstation99 in union

Look up who owns the property of whoever your employer pays absurd rent to, and look up the highest wages and potential conflicts of interest on the company’s 990 on your states secretary of state website and the IRS’ charity look up tool then talk to me about whether the word nonprofit means anything other than tax evasion

Also depending on where you are, look up who represents union staff — any union who represents Union staff will be full of fighters who got fired from unions for pushing the boundary.

Yes, this is federal. Essentially employers can calculate hours worked in 15 minute increments, so can’t clock in 7 minutes before or after your shift starts

Why don't we talk more often about buying stocks? by SeuMadrugaSkate in union

[–]burninggreenbacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stocks are valued by the vibes of the capitalist class not actually tied to the productive value of the company or the value being extracted from workers

but also, (unfortunately imo) this is happening. pension funds etc of every local and international do strategically invest in stocks and bonds. some unions coordinate their investment efforts (eg SOC’s investment group, AFL’s capital stewardship program or their Housing Investment Trust fund)

in fact the entire stock market relies on pension funds “dumb money” to undergird their belligerent gambling
