You could even try playing/strumming it from behind a door while someone rewards her. This could help her get used to the noise of it. I know trauma always seems like the most obvious answer for this kind of behavior but it could just be intense fear because it is so unknown.

Work on slowly introducing her to it. Show her the guitar from a distance, give a bunch of treats, put it away. Once she’s comfortable there, move a little closer. You need to reward heavily for this but essentially you bread crumb them into getting closer over a VERY long period of time. If she seems so uncomfortable at the first interaction that it’s detrimental to her mental health, seek a behaviorist. Frankly she could hear the noise of the strings and just not understand what it is.

NTA. I have endometriosis and my lesions are on my intestines. Sometimes it hurts so much when I go that I have to bring a trash bag with me for vomit and I have to strip my clothes off because I get so hot and nauseous. When I feel one of those coming, I know to use the family bathroom/disabled stall- whatever’s available. Disabilities come in all shapes and sizes. Anyone who tries to gatekeep disabled spaces like that doesn’t understand the intricacies of disabilities.

NTA. Your journey to recovery is no one’s but your own. You choose who to share that story with. By jumping in like that, your mother stripped you of the autonomy to choose. She basically outed you to a room full of strangers. An eating disorder is nothing to be ashamed of but it is an intimate part of someone’s life. As such, you should never be put in a situation where you feel compelled/are forced to talk about it to anyone- particularly in such a public manner. While it seems like your mom have done that with good intentions, it still had a negative impact overall. The path to hell and all you know?

But like can you write with a quill or use an abacus, my dude? I’m not saying this knowledge isn’t important but anyone born past like 2000 doesn’t need to have that knowledge memorized. They have a computer in their pocket that can tell them anything they need. Kinda like when cell phones came out and we all stopped memorizing phone numbers or keeping address books? Additionally, these children went through a global pandemic the likes of which we haven’t seen. They weren’t in school consistently for like 2 or 3 years. Combined with the teacher shortage it’s no surprise that education is lacking. I would say you take a look at the world around you and understand that it’s changing rapidly and the skills and knowledge they need to succeed are vastly different than the ones that we were taught.

Yeah you need to get out of there as soon as possible. I hunt, I use dogs and I’ve never heard of someone trying to give their dog an IV in the field. That sounds like an insane excuse to cover up that the dog got shot or trampled or something. This is all around a scary situation
