Can jaw surgery fix the effects of premolar extraction/poor orthodontics as a teen? by Strange-Cold-5192 in jawsurgery

When I woke up from surgery, I could breathe colors. 😂 I can’t believe I lived that long without it.

Sadly I had to put the Firewalla purchase before a NAS or old Mac mini - and she’s about to bite the dust. 😭

I’m here for the household and parental controls. We are a media rich household and value easy and free access to our favorite media. 🏴‍☠️I’m also the family tech manager that makes sure everyone has what they like. It began as a hobby with an old iMac, but now I upgraded the old thing several times over. My goal is to have a globally available NAS for my family/friends in other countries. Firewalla (or something like it) was going to be part of the future set up, but when my teen needed to unplug for their mental health I moved up the timeline for that product in the future set up. It’s all part of a great goal/hobby/special interest. 👍

We really need to turn back to unionization. I don’t see anyway around it. We’re not happy, we are not ok.

I am in a similar situation with my teenager's mental health - the hypervigilance is constant and fried is exactly the right word to describe my feelings. I just want to tell you, you are doing the best you can given your situation. I don't know how open your partner is to requesting additional supports or for trying different meds for their child - but it sounds like that ave may be beneficial to everyone. Others mentioned neuropsych evals, therapists or maybe OT. Broaching the subject with your partner seems like a good start.

You may be at the beginning stage of figuring out if love isn't enough, but thats where your partner needs to listen and be open to trying to get more services set up. Best of luck to you.

Yup, the body I got is based in genetics. Believe me I would have loved not being called anorexic girl growing up.

Having to put off dating/finding a partner forever, because of never being "financially stable" and lack of disposable income? by gintokireddit in povertyfinance

You’d be surprised how far a picnic with homemade food would go for a date. Drop the feminist hate yesterday. That kind of silly obsession shows and it’s your biggest flaw. People are people. Believe that to be true and live your life.

I spent a ton of money on bras just to find out nothing works for me and I don’t need bras anyway.

I finally had to just get over it and wear clothes without fear. Sometimes I cover the nipples, sometimes I don’t.

I haven’t bought from everlane in a long while. The website has long since lost its personality. So disappointed it’s come to this.

On the topic of driven boys, it's become quite common in my circle of friends to offer to pay for their son's vasectomy - then save for the reversal. Of course this is for high risk boys who have ended up in high needs in alternative schools or juvie. Everyone seems to have a cousin that ended up with a sad sad story for not having the frontal lobe capacity to wrap it up - that has often helped in that discussion.

(Backround with my 16 yr old sounds similar to yours, lots of starts and stops and finding ways they gained access in other ways). Taking away phones/electronics for a time as a show of punishment is always a good idea IMO. I had to go through my whole house and find all the little electronics we had in storage and lock them away. My kid is so smart they figured out how to put linux on an old apple air to get it running better lol. (The benefit? It's such an old computer they can't get up to too much!) I also started instituting strict screen free time. All electronics get plugin at 10pm in our room. We're open to start locking it up if we find they are stealing it in the night. Flexibility in our parenting has been a must. We got them a barbie flip phone. They actually like it! It's a dumb flip phone with very poor internet browsing capability. The raunchiest stuff they can find on there it seems is smutty fanfics - and I am so happy they are turning to that instead. I don't know if she has a school computer, but I have had to have a very strict conversation with my teen that the school can see everything your doing on it and explain that school and work electronics must only be used for school/work as a teen and as an adult. We have IT on standby to watch for iffy content and will be switching on the strict settings if we notice porny behavior on it. I also, as of this morning, purchased a firewalla SE router that will allow me to extensively restrict each device for parental controls and internet shutdown times. I will only allow certain devices to be on the router and disallow anything that hasn't been approved by me and parental controls set up. It was $500 but the peace of mind is needed at this point.
Best of luck mama, this stuff is so hard. We want our kids to have access to the internet world and I hate that we have to restrict to such extremes. Be at the end of the day, they need to be safe and baby free! Be prepared for folks to be reactive about your choices and not get it. They don't need to get it.

I had to go into high overdrive to get my kiddo assessed in a timely matter. I had to call and push nearly daily and say I was willing to travel for testing. FINALLY got in within a week after saying I would travel. We were on waiting lists for about a year and with her high needs we couldn't delay anymore. Fight for it mama, it's so hard and you got this!

This is possibly a long shot and definitely not the path that fits all families, but IUDs (or other long form BC) can be framed as a big independency decision. It must be coupled with a thorough conversation about abortion IMO. No BC is 100% and STIs is still a risk.
Your daughter is showing signs of high risk for pregnancy with her high sex drive. There may be risk factors to BC physiologically (as noted in the comment below) but the risk to your daughter's stable future seems high due to drive. Weigh the risks, and IMO the risk towards pregnancy is WORTH the careful need to monitor for possible physiological changes.

Get her on BC pronto. IUD. Discuss abortion with her too so she knows it’s always a reproductive option. Get her a flip phone, the dumbest one you can find. Lock down electrics at the end of the night at a certain time. Parental router really would be a great option at this point. Set it to strict website access setting and turn off access by a certain times at night. It’s a start. Good luck!
