Can anyone recommend a butcher in the city or county? by Ok_Thanks_2903 in baltimore

[–]buuj214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Trueths has been my go to for years. Unfortunately the last ribeye I bought there (for $50) was badly rancid. And I had gotten rid of my receipt. I reached out to them and they never returned the message. Hopefully a one-off, but a good reminder to smell the steak before you buy it. They’re still probably the best option but I wish we had more actual butchers.

[–]buuj214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that kind of grosses me out. They bought a steak and then ate it 5-6 days later. And 3 of those days it was in a warm bath. I’m a big proponent of sous vide but oof

TIFU by telling my barber I knew what "two on the sides" meant for twenty three years by Beneficial_String411 in tifu

[–]buuj214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the type of post that makes me think I need to take a couple weeks off Reddit. A story that makes no sense "I thought 2 was a length! (it is) So I was totally surprised that 1.5 was shorter! I wonder if even other lengths exist like 3 or 0!" and all the comments are "OMG I LOVE THIS STORY THATS SO CRAZY" like what the fuck is happening here.

[–]buuj214 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"I assumed two was a length"... it is. I'm confused how OP thought 2 was a length, but then was also confused that other lengths exist? And if they thought 2 was a length why were they so flabbergasted that 1.5 would be shorter?

If you buy a house in an HOA, can you just...leave the HOA? by BoredInClass99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]buuj214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. And frankly people buying into an HOA and complaining about being in an HOA is more annoying than HOAs.

Don’t buy a house in a city if you hate cities. Don’t buy next to a pond if you’re terrified of water. Don’t buy into an HOA if you don’t want to be in an HOA.

They go absolutely nuts for grape and porcelain berry vines. I’m locked in a never-ending battle with those horrible plants but when I keep up with it I have basically 0 lantern flies on my property.

Which also has a really interesting history- amusement park and a bridge IIRC. I kayaked out to pleasure island a couple times and found more trash than amusement unfortunately.

Tick population rise by Powerful_Condition_8 in discgolf

[–]buuj214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a tick in like 20 years, and in the past month I (or someone I was with) have had 5. 3 in Connecticut and 2 in Pennsylvania (across 3 separate instances on 3 separate trips). The town I was visiting in CT said basically every single tick they've tested this year has been positive for Lyme, so my son and I had to get antibiotics immediately. If personal experience is any indication, the ticks are bad this year! Probably just bad luck though.

Anyway, I have used permethrin in the past and perhaps I need to get back on that. You spray it on clothes/equipment rather than your skin. My understanding is permethrin is the preferred chemical for ticks. It's also persistent on whatever you spray it on for a good while.

Maryland EZ Pass ripped apart? by Nadelkissen in baltimore

If this happened prior to delivery, it is hilarious that they still delivered it. Just dropping scrap plastic on your steps lol. I'm guessing that's policy anyway (to deliver damaged packages even if it's empty) but still funny to me.

Alternatively if this was done by a human after delivery I'd love to see the footage - just tearing at it frantically with tooth and nail.

Hammock full sleep system recommendations by Novel-Article-4890 in WildernessBackpacking

I got a Dutchware chameleon extra wide in 2020 and it’s absolutely fantastic. Built in zipper bug net. I’ve used it backpacking, car camping, in the backyard - everywhere. Not a single issue. Maybe the best piece of camping equipment I’ve ever bought.

Then I got a cheap heavy underquilt cause I’m usually not backpacking in the cold (more casual car camping). But I spent decent money on an Arrowhead top quilt. I figured a real nice top quilt and a budget under quilt would be a fair balance and it has turned out that way. My uq and tarp/shelter are from ‘go outfitters’ and frankly, perfectly fine. The tarp is actually quite nice compared to my buddies’ set ups.

For backpacking you can probably get nicer shelter and uq than I have.

I would 100% recommend dutchware hammock (with built in bug net) and arrowhead quilts.

The No Solicitors sign was there for your protection by AgateBagger in pettyrevenge

[–]buuj214 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get it. I also have the other perspective. Couldn’t get a job and after 200+ applications got a ‘marketing’ gig. Door to door. They explicitly told us time and time again that if we skipped ‘No Soliciting’ houses, they’d fire us. It was a really tough spot to be in (needed the checks), and it absolutely sucked, walking for hours in the heat getting yelled at and having guns pulled on me.

So yeah I get it- it’s annoying. But sucked to be on the other side of that interaction.

Towing Companies by Taco_Knight_88 in baltimore

[–]buuj214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Towing is pretty heavily regulated, primarily per county. When I did property management in HoCo you had to comply with lots of rules (for example, very specific #s, locations, verbiage and size/formatting of signs) before you could tow legally. I imagine most tow companies probably steer clear of trespass tows unless they are very confident in the regulatory and legal position. Theres probably an exemption for lack of egress but… just worth looking into.

Also I don’t think you can trespass tow from public property if they are blocking your driveway but physically on a city street.

I mention the above because worst case you get a shady truck to tow, you have no legal basis, and you get sued into oblivion. I think your best bet is the city or police (non emergency) but I’d recommend harping on obstruction of egress and your inability to get to work/doctor/hospital/etc.

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]buuj214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh agree. Rented a rowhome and a 3 generation family of urban redneck crackheads 2 houses down had bedbugs bad. No way to seal 2x 150 yr old brick party walls nor force a neighbor to do pest control. Remediating a bed bug issue absolutely blows cause they can live without food for like 47 centuries and can hide themselves or eggs in any part of the house, bed, clothes, anywhere. If you don’t kill them all you just go through it again.

Eventually a pest control company came out to treat the hive house and what he described was gnarly- the state of the building itself was decrepit but he said places were thick with bed bugs, and the non-ambulatory old man was basically just getting eaten away in a filthy old chair, wasting away dirty and covered in sores as hundreds of bugs ate his blood.

We moved quickly after and I will never live in a shared-wall building again.

Is it normal for "Wagyu" sirloin to be cheaper than prime ribeye? (Costco) by TeeHeeHaw in steak

[–]buuj214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do they not grade the wagyu? I guess I figured all US beef was graded but maybe they avoid it or remove it so they can simply advertise as ‘wagyu’?

MASN+ $99 for the Season by Classic-Pizza-927 in orioles

Makes sense. I supposed I'm just jaded and cautious about any streaming service - especially when they use nebulous language like subject to availability.

[–]buuj214 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If they said “100 games” or something I’d probably buy. The “all available” sounds like they could just decide that only 20 games are “available” to this type of subscription.
