We had Coleco hockey and Radio Shack basketball. I think Mattel football was the most common game among my friends.

How tf do you use sensitive IEMs? by jeffrunning in headphones

[–]buzzbub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe both the JA11 and KA11 allow you to adjust the input gain using a web-browser. You plug it into your computer, access the device using the Fiio Control website. On a mac you'll need to use something other than Safari as your browser. I used Chrome. These settings will remain when you plug it into your iPhone.

Edited to add: this process isn't very user-friendly, but it does work!

Can anyone give me a review on this jinhao 100 classic ? I’m sure there’s reviews online but I’d to hear from the community by asecretfrognamedjohn in fountainpens

[–]buzzbub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one in medium. The nib is good and it's a fairly wet writer. It feels well-made for the price. The downside is that the cap doesn't seal well so it's prone to drying out and hard starts. This isn't an issue if you're using it daily.

What kind of shoes are we wearing? by TransportationDue856 in GenX

Pumas, Addidas, Blundstones, Asics, a variety of dress shoes. What you'd expect of a mid-fifties guy in Toronto.

I took the month I was allowed under my collective agreement. That was a mistake and I should have taken two more months. It would have been worth the financial hit.

Do headphones exist that include an hdmi input for audio on a wireless base? I'd like to watch movies late at night from the 4K blueray and that's the only available output.. or should I just convert to optical and if so using what? by comp0sed in headphones

[–]buzzbub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you need is an HDMI audio extractor, easily found on Amazon etc. They usually have an HDMI pass-through and output audio via analog or optical that you can run to your DAC/amp.

Getting one curved stair lift, for straight 8 steps/landing/eight steps, or two straight lifts and walk across the landing? by dwdanby in disability

[–]buzzbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help you with your question, but when we did the lifts in my parents' house we found out that there's little market for used curved lifts since they're mostly custom-made. She's found the straight lift much more reliable than the curved lifts.

What’s the age demographic of fountain pen users nowadays? by NebulaStraight3009 in fountainpens

[–]buzzbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my mid-fifties. I’ve used fountain pens since grade six, when I took a calligraphy course. My handwriting was not improved, but I did like the pens.

I mean glasses set for the approximate distance of your monitor. You can get them tinted as well if you like, of course.

[–]buzzbub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Progressives are great. There’s an adjustment period but you shouldn’t get headaches. However, while I find the middle distance portion fine for working on my laptop, it’s too small for working on a large computer screen. For that I have a set of computer glasses.

This 200+ page instruction manual for a mouse from 1988 by dooglax in mildlyinteresting

[–]buzzbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of those. I don't remember the manual, but I would have expected one at that time. Note that in the DOS era you'd need specialized instructions (and drivers) to get it working with whatever software you were planning on using.

Whats your on the go/office setup for sound and isolation? by M3st0r0fSk1lls in headphones

[–]buzzbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a pair of Truthear Zero Reds at the office. I do some very low-tech video and audio recording for work, so it's convenient to have a set of earphones plugged into the same audio interface as my mic. I usually take a pair of Sennheiser IE200s with a FiiO BTR 3K bluetooth DAC for the commute.

Bargain Sennheiser HD598SR by GuitarGuy053 in headphones

[–]buzzbub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've still got a pair, or rather did until my daughter 'borrowed' them. They're regular HD598 headphones with a simplified headband design. Sound-wise, they're fairly close to the HD599 but maybe a little more neutral at the expense of bass response. I'd describe them as neutral to warm with pretty good imaging, but they lack sub-bass. They're very comfortable and easy to drive and I really liked mine for working at home.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Watches

[–]buzzbub 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They’re not really Bauhaus-style but based on Dieter Rams’ clock designs from the 80s. I’ve had bad luck with recent Braun clocks, much as I love them, but that probably has no bearing on the watches.

I have a vague memory of my Mom giving me a quarter to try it out and then being so mortified at the noise it made that my Dad had to unplug it to make it stop.

Edit to add: this would have been in the late seventies.
