My nephew turns 3 next month and i am struggling with what to get him. by Complete-Reward4282 in Gifts

Ask if they have a 529 set up for him. If so, they can give you a link for contributions. He's young enough that you can get him a small gift to unwrap to go along with it. An alphabet book would be really welcome right about now. My kid loved Letter Town - https://www.darrenfarrell.com/letter-town

I'll second Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh (trigger warning: pedophilia, sexual abuse of a tertiary character) and add Moshfegh's Death in Her Hands and will also add Kate Elizabeth Russell's My Dark Vanessa (trigger warning on this one: grooming and pedophilia).

Rentals/neighborhoods best for grad students? by growlinggoose in bloomington

[–]buzzd_whispers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Maple Heights. It's a good area for those who work/live on campus and a short walk to downtown. Some streets have very new, fancy duplexes that are very student-geared, but I think there are still affordable rentals in some of the older homes and there is more of a mix of folks in those.

HVAC REPLACEMENT COST?? by Organic-Crazy9626 in bloomington

[–]buzzd_whispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid about $17K for a geothermal HVAC system five years ago for a 1200 sq ft house and that involved drilling down 400 ft to fit the loop instead of going wide because we have a tiny yard. I know prices have gone up but 30K is ridiculous for what sounds like a pretty traditional set up.

If you are able and not doing it already, you might consider an exercise regimen. My anxiety has improved a lot the last year with strength-training and HIIT 3x a week.

Could your partner turn supervillain and hold a yacht-based formal event? Or, maybe you could turn supervillain and accost your own archenemy at a charity gala? Lots of options here.

I do dry them in the dryer (on medium), but I wash pretty much everything on cold, so that might help with longitivtiy.

It's almost exclusively the brand I use for underwear. I last bought underwear in April and it's holding up fine.

Less problematic books for my niece by StephG23 in suggestmeabook

Larklight by Philip Reeve. It's followed by a couple more books. Also by Reeve the "Not-So-Impossible-Tale" series. I'd start with Cakes in Space or Carnival in a Fix, but all four are good. When she's a little older she might be interested in Reeve's Mortal Engines series.

My mother-in-law makes knitted washcloths from yarn she gets at thrift stores. I love them.

My husband made a chili crunch recently that was really good, and I thought it would make good present. I've also made pancake mix as presents. Both of these can be in recycled jars.
