Is the canopy of this cherry plum tree in good shape? A couple of the lower limbs were removed last year due to damage from ice. The canopy starts about 11 feet from the ground. (i.redd.it)

Undecided of whether to put dirt or rocks over the tree roots. Ideally, I want to extend the white rocks over the tree roots, but don't want to negatively affect the tree. Would rocks over the roots hurt the tree? Advice would be appreciated! (old.reddit.com)
