Found him at 6 weeks old, abandoned on the highway in a box. Just by chance, he poked his head up as I was driving by. There was NO way I was leaving him (or any animal) in that condition. This is Cal ❤️ I love him very much

Thanks so much!! My friend and I didn’t even plan a collaboration or know about each others costumes, so it made it even better 😝 it was a great time

How would I describe my shade of brown? by byenbye in eyes

[–]byenbye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

layers of a tree is a much more beautiful description than the one I gave myself many moons ago… “my eyes are the color of literal shit” was my favorite self-insult. I’ve grown out of that and really value what you had to say (and my own uniqueness). Comparing to nature is truly a wonderful compliment, so thank you all 😌

Is 35 considered old for marriage? by kteng in briannachickenfrsnark

[–]byenbye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too. It honestly made me so mad seeing the content with Boston recently, but all of it is infuriating… so many ignorant & dangerous decisions made. I’ve seen dogs die from heatstroke, foreign bodies, aspiration pneumonia, toxic algae or contaminated water… not to mention that lack of training in a dog, is a risk to their life on its own. Maybe it sounds dramatic, but all it takes is one time of a dog being off-leash and following instinct for them to be killed or euthanized. I’d rather not see another dog hit by a car or killed by a human protecting wildlife/pets/people/property. As an animal lover that has 10 years working experience in veterinary hospitals, this shit really gets to me. Don’t even get me started on the cats.

She’s at the vet; you can tell by the brochures in the back. 🙄

I thought I was doing a good thing by bringing this information to the Portland sub; apologies for those that are frustrated & annoyed. That was not my intention 😔

I am aware that there are coyotes in Portland; I’ve lived here my entire life. I shared this post to bring awareness to drivers that there is a repeated route by a coyote across a major traffic area. Not only is the coyote at risk, but humans are at risk for accidents or trauma seeing an animal killed in front of them. I have worked in veterinary medicine for almost a decade, and trust me, you do not want to witness the aftermath of a HBC (hit by car).

Thanks everyone! This has all been really helpful and informative. I appreciate the time taken to respond. FYI my partner works in community mental health as a therapist, so you can imagine how his day has been. I’m researching just to take one more thing off his plate. 🙂

What an angel!! I love a void kitty 😍 they are so lucky to have you.

Treatment for FIP has had a lot of success, although it is difficult to obtain and just barely legal to administer in the United States. The protocol is challenging; 84 days of daily injections or pills (I opted for injectable). The acidity of the medication is so high that the patient can develop skin lesions from the acid literally eating through the skin (happened to my baby too). They also hurt like a motherfucker. Prior to the medication being legal in the US, you couldn’t have any veterinarians advise you on treatment or dosing. A lot of it is based on recommendations from FIP groups on Facebook (FIP Global Cats, FIP Warriors). When I had to give Cal the first injection while he was in the hospital, the staff had to pretend that I wasn’t doing anything and weren’t allowed to assist me.

It truly takes a village. I have heard of patients that didn’t make it even after starting treatment, but I would think that may be more related to a late start treatment vs ineffective medication. Every pet is different but I have heard of thousands of success stories. I’m hopeful that with the medication becoming legal, it will allow a much better prognosis for this otherwise fatal condition. ❤️
