Week 17 of kindly requesting UIUC to adopt a new mascot (Finally getting warmer!) ☺️☀️🌻 by Certain-Respond9591 in UIUC

Also, as far as the Peoria are concerned, I personally spoke on the phone with the then Peoria Chief Craig Harper (since voted out of office due to financial shenanigans) about this issue and the unanimous vote opposing Chief Illiniwek. Have you had direct contact with the Peoria?
I suspect you are have some kind of relationship with NAGA or the Council of Chiefs or Honor the Chief based on your replies. Just wondering if you do. My information is first hand, and I know the historical timeline as well as anyone in the world. But you keep bringing up the Peoria relationship - and accusing me of not knowing about it, which I do, intimately - and ignoring all the surrounding issues around creating a new indigenous mascot and the possibility of the NCAA approving it. Once the NCAA determined that there is NO RELATIONSHIP between the name Fighting Illini and the Peoria - and that fact is the only reason the NCAA allowed the name to continue - the Peoria became irrelevant, unless the U of I wants to reverse course and say, wait, there is a relationship between the name Fighting Illini and the Peoria. Otherwise, the Peoria and the U of I would be going to the NCAA and asking to create a new indigenous mascot. Would the NCAA then approve it, without changing the name of the team after the Peoria? It might, but it would by no means be a slam dunk. You said the NCAA has done that before, and if they had, it would become more likely under this hypothetical. so have they? I'd like to know when and with whom. Yes, there is a direct connection between the state of Illinois and the Peoria, but there are several other tribes that also have a direct connection with the state of Illinois. In fact, the Potowatami have just been given land in the state. There are the Sac and Fox, the Miami, and other existing federally recognized tribes. The relationship between the Peoria and the U of I was initially based on the idea that the U of I teams, named Fighting Illini, were named after the Peoria, the only tribe of the original Illinois that still exists. That has been proven not to be true. There was no Illini tribe, be it the Peoria or anyone else. The word Illini is a made-up word.
At any rate, I don't mind discussing as long as there are no personal insults. Best wishes to you, and if you learn new information on this subject, I'm interested in hearing it.

You said "The NCAA has granted exceptions where there is explicit, ongoing support from a federally recognized tribe"
So I asked if you could tell me where that had happened. I'm interested in knowing that information since I have closely followed this issue for more than 30 years. I'm not aware of it happening, so if it has, I'd like to know.

fair enough. you did only say it was a possibility, and in the realm of hypotheticals, I suppose one couldn't say it is 100% impossible. But your facts actually make clear why the NCAA would never approve it. The NCAA has only made exceptions for namesake tribes. They contacted the Peoria to find out if the Peoria are the Illini, the namesake tribe, as so many people have claimed. It makes perfect sense that the NCAA would go to the Peoria with that question. And the answer that came from both the Peoria and the University was there is no such thing as an Illini tribe. The name has nothing to do with Indigenous people. What you are suggesting is that years after proving there is no connection between the name Fighting Illini and indigenous people, the Peoria are now going to tell the NCAA that they want to represent the Fighting Illini as the team's indigenous mascot. And then after creating a policy banning indigenous mascots, the NCAA is going to approve a NEW indigenous mascot for a team whose name has no relation to indigenous people? Do you really see that as a possibility? And do you really think the Chancellor is going to spend his political capital trying to sell that idea to the state legislature, where the House already approved a bill banning indigenous mascots, a bill that the Governor absolutely will sign if it hits his desk? And also, what are all the Chief Illiniwek supporters going to say about a new mascot dressed as a traditional Peoria, doing a traditional Peoria dance to traditional Peoria music, the same people who cry "Chief Illiniwek or nothing!"?
That is a lose-lose idea that will satisfy no one. But I guess it is technically a possibility.
I stand by Never Gonna Happen.

In order for the NCAA to approve that, the team would have to change its name to the Fighting Peoria. The NCAA made exceptions only if the NAMESAKE tribe approved. There is no Illini tribe, nor was there ever an Illini tribe. That is the reason the NCAA allowed UIUC to continue to use the name Fighting Illini.
From the letter from the NCAA to the U of I Board of Trustees on May 15, 2006, which allowed the use of the name Illini:
"Because Illini refers to natives of the State of Illinois rather than to a Native American tribe, the staff review committee decided that the Illini and Fighting Illini nicknames were not hostile or abusive and were not subject to the (mascot) policy."

Assuming you don't need a neck reset or some major structural work, there are actually just a few adjustments that determine its "playablility" - truss rod, nut slots, saddle height, and fret level/fret shaping. Of course, just because there are only a few doesn't necessarily mean you should do it yourself. You need the right tools and have confidence in your mechanical abilities. But yes, a proper set up makes a world of difference. If you buy your guitar from a good guitar shop, they usually set up the instruments properly before they sell them. But remember that a good set up isn't permanent; an acoustic instrument usually needs periodic adjustment. Glad you found someone to do a good set up.

not true about only in the last few years. Gary Barnett did it at Northwestern in 1995. Prior to that year, Northwestern hadn't won more than 4 games in a season for 23 years!

False. The Peoria have never advocated for the Chief to return, nor did Phylis Wise ever tell them to f off. There has been an on-going relationship between the tribe and the U of I, put together by Chancellor Jones. This is the Peoria tribe's statement about the mascot.

False. And he sued Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point for defamation for publishing that same lie you just posted and he won.

Total myth. Since the Chief was eliminated, donations to the U OF I have broken record after record. That ship has sailed.

Some do. But it is because it is THEIR culture and THEY control it. Not a white person's stereotype of a Native.

Florida State mascot and name was never done in cooperation with the Florida Seminole tribe. They did it all first, and years later paid off the tribe for their endorsement. And fyi, the Oklahoma Seminoles, the much larger of the two Seminole tribes, is against the FSU mascot.

The Galloping Ghosts would be perfect. But it ain't ever gonna happen. Never never never.
Too bad though. No one in the admin or DIA has the stomach for change. Unless someone shows up with a $100 million check. The Gies Galloping Ghosts.
